Quick Hits About The 'Hounds

  • Loyola University Maryland women's soccer returns to action on Saturday, October 13, a week after completing a stretch of four games in 11 days.
  • The Greyhounds host Boston University at 1 p.m. at RIdley Athletic Complex. The game will be Loyola's penultimate home match of the season, and it will stream live on the Patriot League Network.
  • After starting the season with three games on the road, Loyola played eight of 10 contests at home. The October 6 game at Holy Cross started a stretch of three of five on the road.

  • Kelly Crowley headed in an Ang Seslija corner kick in the first half to stake host Holy Cross to a 1-0 lead that would turn into the final score during a Patriot League match against Loyola Maryland on Saturday afternoon.
  • Seslija sent a corner to the back post where Crowley was waiting for a header past the Loyola defense to put the Crusaders in front 27:42 into the game.
  • To that point, the Greyhounds had outshot Holy Cross 6-1 in the match, and the Greyhounds ended with a 15-7 lead in the statistical category. Despite the consistent pressure – Loyola put seven of its shots on goal in the match – the Greyhounds did not find the netting.
  • The Crusaders had an 8-5 lead in scorner kicks, and Holy Cross made seven saves to the Greyhounds' five.

Series History

  • Loyola and Boston University will meet for the ninth time when the teams take the field on Saturday and the sixth time in Patriot League regular-season action.
  • Both schools joined the conference for the 2013 season. The teams also met in the 2014 Patriot League Semifinals, a 2-1 Terriers victory in Boston.
  • The Terriers hold a 6-1-1 advantage in the previous seven meetings after scoring a 3-0 victory over the Greyhounds during the October 14, 2017 match in Boston.
  • The Greyhounds (had early control of the game, but the Terriers were the first to strike as Anna Heilferty skimmed a low shot past a diving Sumer Rahe in the 27th minute.
  • Loyola turned up its pressure in the closing minutes of the first half and ultimately ended up creating a corner kick opportunity. Nicole Rivas played the ball into the box and Beth Eversman, unmarked on the top corner of the box, volleyed a clearance attempt before sending her shot off of the crossbar as time expired.
  • McKenna Doyle then gave the Terriers a pair of insurance goals, touching a loose ball over the line in the 56th minute before putting a corner kick away in the 68th minute.

About The Terriers

  • Boston University is tied for the Patriot League lead through five conference matches, bringing a 4-0-1 mark into Saturday's game at Loyola. The Terriers are 6-7-2 overall after playing a tough non-conference slate of matches that included contests against Michigan, Michigan State, Connecticut and Boston College.
  • Anna Heilferty leads the Terriers with 14 points on five goals and four assists this season, while Taylor Kofton and McKenna Doyle each have six points.
  • Amanda Fay and Morgan Messner have split time in goal nearly equally. Fay allowed one goal Tuesday night in a 2-1 overtime win for the Terriers over Harvard.

Goal Outburst

  • Loyola finished with a 5-1 win on October 1 in its non-conference finale against Delaware State University. The five goals were the most Loyola has scored in a match since it beat Saint Peter's, 6-0, on October 5, 2012. 
  • Four different players scored goals against the Hornets with the Greyhounds also recording an own-goal tally.

Scoring On A Tough D

  • Hannah Hoefs' goal against Army West Point on Saturday was just the sixth the Black Knights have allowed this season. It was the first Army West Point has allowed in Patriot League play (four matches) thus far in 2018. The Black Knights entered the weekend ranked 11th in NCAA Division I in goals-allowed average.

Four For Hannah

  • Hannah Hoefs tallied her fourth goal of the season on Monday and her second in as many games. She converted a penalty kick, her second of the season, against Delaware State. On Saturday versus Army West Point, Hoefs  notched her second goal which counted as the eventual game-winner. She one-timed a corner kick by Nicole Rivas that was headed on by Kate Reese past Army West Point goalkeeper Sydney Cassillia.
  • Hoefs also had an assist versus Delaware State and is now sixth in the Patriot League in points (10) and points per game (0.83). Her four goals are tied for fifth in the conference.
