Looking Back

  • Claire Beath scored the equalizing goal in the 82nd minute on Wednesday afternoon, giving Loyola a 1-1 draw at host American in Patriot League action.
  • Beath's goal came less than a minute after American tallied the match's first goal.
  • Yari Bradfield put the Eagles on the board when she connected inside the 18 on a long free-kick by Audrey Denkler at 80:48, staking American to a 1-0 lead with less than 10 minutes to go in regulation.
  • The Greyhounds quickly rallied, winning a corner on their offensive end. Gillian Borton sent the ball into the box where it was knocked around on the grass before Beath struck a shot that found the netting to tie the game 47 seconds after Bradfield's goal.

Series History

  • Loyola and Lehigh have met eight previous times in a series that dates to 1995.
  • After Lehigh scored twice in the second half of last year's match, the series is tied 3-3-2 all-time.
  • The Greyhounds' victories came during the first three meetings, including in 1995 and 1996 as Loyola defeated Lehigh 2-0 in each of those contests.
  • The two sides wouldn't meet for another 10 years, when Lehigh traveled to Baltimore on October 3, 2006. The Greyhounds defeated the Mountain Hawks, 4-1.
  • In their first Patriot League matchup in 2013, the Mountain Hawks topped the Greyhounds, 2-1, and in the 2014 season, the two teams played to a scoreless draw at Ridley Athletic Complex.
  • Lehigh came out with the win, 2-1, in 2015 on the Mountain Hawks home field. Last year, the teams took 110 minutes and evenly split 20 shots, but neither Loyola nor the Mountain Hawks registered a goal in the match at Ridley Athletic Complex. The teams then played to a scoreless draw in 2016.
  • Last year, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Lehigh scored two goals in the final 21 minutes Saturday for a 2-0 win. Lisa Kestelboym opened the scoring for the Mountain Hawks just under 70 minutes into the contest, and Maggie Wadsworth added an insurance goal in the 89th minute, curling a shot inside the top left corner from just outside the box.

About The Mountain Hawks

  • Lehigh is 5-10-0 overall and 2-5-0 in the Patriot League coming into Saturday's match. The Mountain Hawks lost, 1-0, to Bucknell University on Wednesday in their most recent match. They have conference wins over Lafayette College (4-1) and American (1-0).
  • Sabrina Mertz leads Lehigh with seven points a team-high three goals and an assist. Kayla Arestivo is right behind with two goals and a pair of assists for six points.
  • Sam Miller as a team-best 0.95 goals-against average and 81.3 saves percentage.

Beath On The Board

  • Claire Beath scored her first goal of 2018 on Wednesday when she tied the game at American with her second career tally. Beath's timing was perfect as it came with less than eight minutes to go in regulation and under than 50 seconds after the Eagles had taken a 1-0 lead.

Goal Outburst

  • Loyola finished with a 5-1 win on October 1 in its non-conference finale against Delaware State University. The five goals were the most Loyola has scored in a match since it beat Saint Peter's, 6-0, on October 5, 2012.
  • Four different players scored goals against the Hornets with the Greyhounds also recording an own-goal tally.

Scoring On A Tough D

  • Hannah Hoefs' goal against Army West Point on Saturday was just the sixth the Black Knights have allowed this season. It was the first Army West Point has allowed in Patriot League play (four matches) thus far in 2018. The Black Knights entered the weekend ranked 11th in NCAA Division I in goals-allowed average.

Four For Hannah

  • Hannah Hoefs tallied her fourth goal of the season on October 1 and her second in as many games. She converted a penalty kick, her second of the season, against Delaware State. On Saturday versus Army West Point, Hoefs  notched her second goal which counted as the eventual game-winner. She one-timed a corner kick by Nicole Rivas that was headed on by Kate Reese past Army West Point goalkeeper Sydney Cassillia.
  • Hoefs also had an assist versus Delaware State and is now tied for eighth in the Patriot League in points (10) and points per game (0.71). Her four goals are tied for fifth in the conference.
