Quick Hits About The 'Hounds

  • Loyola University Maryland wraps up the 2018 regular-season on Saturday, October 27 when it plays at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania.
  • The match will start at 1 p.m. and stream live on the Patriot League Network.
  • Loyola remains alive for a spot in the 2018 Patriot League Championships. Lehigh University plays at College of the Holy Cross Friday night in a game with implications for the Greyhounds.
  • If Lehigh wins, a Loyola win against the Leopards clinches a spot in the Championships. If Holy Cross wins, or the match ends in a tie, Loyola must beat Lafayette and have an American-Army West Point tie on Saturday night.
  • Naomi Meiburger is in her fifth season as the head coach at Loyola. She is joined on the sidelines by third-year assistants Kevin Dempsey and Morgan Ruhl and volunteer assistant coach Lacey Phillips.
  • The Greyhounds' 2018 women's soccer roster includes 19 returners with previous experience at Loyola, a transfer and eight freshmen.

Looking Back

  • Sarah Bayer scored twice, including the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute Saturday night, and the Loyola women's soccer team celebrated its Class of 2019 on Senior Night with a 4-3 Patriot League victory over visiting Lehigh.
  • Bayer's goal in the 73rd minute gave Loyola a 4-2 lead, an edge it would need as the Mountain Hawks came back to score just over four minutes later.
  • Bayer put the Greyhounds on the board less than nine minutes into the contest, finishing a shot from inside of six yards. Lehigh scored the next two goals, but Hannah Hoef's free-kick goal in the 44th minute tied the score before halftime.
  • Jourdan Ziff then used assists from Kaleigh Gallagher and Hoefs to score in the 48th minute, pushing Loyola in front, 3-2, before Bayer's second goal.

Series History

  • Loyola and Lafayette will meet for the eighth time overall and sixth time as Patriot League foes when the teams take the field on Saturday.
  • The Greyhounds hold a 3-1-3 record in the series that dates back to 1998. Loyola won both non-conference meetings in 1988 and 2009.
  • The Leopards earned their first victory in the series last year, scoring a 1-0 victory on October 28, at Ridley Athletic Complex.
  • Lafayette took the lead in the 66th minute, as Alex Stanford fired a hard shot off assists from both Alexa Buffa and Gabrielle Lassinger.
  • Loyola's best chance to equalize came in the 89th minute as Casey McKenzie shook off defenders and made a quick break to the goal, but her shot was stopped by goalie Kelly O'Brien.
  • The Greyhounds outshot Lafayette 10-5 and had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

About The Leopards

  • Lafayette is 4-12-0 overall and 1-7-0 entering the final match of the regular-season. The Leopards scored a 2-0 victory over Bucknell University in their first Patriot League match of the season on September 15, but they have lost eight in a row since that time.
  • Alex Stanford leads Lafayette with five goals and 11 points, while Katie Brannigan has chipped in with a team-best four assists.
  • Maggie Pohl has played all 1,440 minutes in goal for the Leopards this season and enters Saturday's contest with a 1.63 goals-against average and a .766 saves percentage.

Goal Outburst

  • Loyola scored four goals on Saturday for a 4-3 victory over visiting Lehigh, the most goals it has scored in a Patriot League match since joining the conference for in 2013.

Three WIth Four Or More

  • After each scored at least one goal Saturday versus the Mountain Hawks, Loyola's Hannah Hoefs, Sarah Bayer and Jourdan Ziff have five, four and four goals, respectively, this year. Loyola is one of only two Patriot League teams (Navy) to boast three players with four or more.

Rookie Honors

  • Freshman Sarah Bayer was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday after scoring twice in the Greyhounds win over Lehigh.
  • Bayer got the game's first goal in the ninth minute, scoring off Kaleigh Gallagher and Hannah Hoefs with a shot inside the six-yard box, and she then tacked on what would be the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute, heading in a Mia Sardella corner kick for the Greyhounds' fourth goal.
  • The game was Bayer's first multi-point and multi-goal outing of her collegiate career and brought her 2018 totals to four goals and an assist for nine points.

Hoefs In The Top Five

  • Hannah Hoefs had a goal and an assist in the Lehigh game, raising her season totals to five goals and four assists for 14 points. She is tied for fourth in the Patriot League in goals and goals per game (.313) and is fifth in both points and points per game. Her four assists are tied for fourth.

Coach's Corner

  • "It is a great position to be in to be playing for something at the end of the season. I am excited about the opportunity we have in front of us, and I know the team is up for it, as well. I have loved watching this group grow and learn with each game this season, and we are in a good spot to extend our season with a result against Lafayette." – Head Coach Naomi Meiburger
