May 24, 2018 BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland student-athletes continued their outstanding work in the classroom during the 2017-18 academic year, setting department records for highest semester and highest cumulative grade-point average.
Through the Spring 2018 semester, the Greyhounds posted a 3.404 grade-point average, while Loyola finished the year with a cumulative 3.337 GPA, both the highest marks in department history.
"Our student-athletes are continuing to raise the bar for academic excellence," said Colleen Campbell, Loyola's director of student-athlete support services. "They recently concluded statistically the best year in our history, and we thrilled to see their hard work and dedication pay off. Without the support of faculty, staff, coaches and administrators, these achievements would not have been possible."
For the year, Loyola student-athletes garnered 306 Dean's List honors and posted 58 perfect 4.0 GPAs, with 14 Greyhounds earning perfect marks through both semesters. Eleven teams finished the year above a 3.30 cumulative GPA, with women's basketball's 3.616 GPA leading the department for the year.
In the fall, women's tennis earned the highest semester GPA of 3.803, with 29 student-athletes posting perfect 4.0s and 147 earning Dean's List honors. Seven teams had a fall GPA above a 3.5.
For the spring, women's basketball earned the highest semester GPA of 3.797, while 30 student-athletes posted a semester GPA of 4.0 and 154 earned Dean's List honors. In addition, eight teams had spring GPAs above a 3.5.
The following student athletes finished the year with a perfect 4.0 GPA through both the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters: Alex Barazotti (women's basketball), Olivia Blakeman (women's lacrosse), Delaney Connolly (women's basketball), Sabrina Daglish (women's soccer), Richard Easterly (men's lacrosse), Jenna Egan (women's swimming and diving), Keenan Gibbons (women's crew), Anne Hayburn (women's swimming and diving), Elli Kluegel (women's lacrosse), Madelene McDonald (women's baskeball), Jared Mintzlaff (men's lacrosse), Maddie Myers (women's swimming and diving), Courtney Vannoy (women's basketball) and Kristen Yanchoris (women's lacrosse).
