BALTIMORE – Andrew Kostecka drew a pile of awards on Monday, days after leading Loyola University Maryland to a pair of overtime wins against Boston University and College of the Holy Cross.
 
The junior guard was named the Lou Henson National Player of the Week, an honor bestowed to the top mid-major player in America, and he picked up his third Patriot League Player of the Week nod of the 2018-2019 season. He is the first Patriot League player to earn the national recognition this season.
 
Kostecka averaged 27.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game in the Greyhounds' wins that are part of a three-game winning streak.
 
This year, Kostecka leads the Patriot League in points (20.4) and steals (2.2) per game. He is one of four players nationally to average more than 20 points and two steals per game, joining Duke University's Zion Williamson, St. John's University's Shamorie Ponds and the University of Louisiana-Monroe's Daishon Smith.
 
He opened the week by scoring 28 points to go with four boards and three steals on Wednesday night as Loyola rallied from 13 down to force overtime and beat the Terriers, 81-73.
 
Kostecka then went for 26 points, eight rebounds and four steals on Saturday in an overtime victory at Holy Cross. He saved his most dramatic moment for last, however, scoring the game-winning layup with two-tenths of a second left.
 
In the two games, the Germantown, Maryland, native made 23 field goals, shooting 59 percent from the field. He also knocked down three of six attempts from 3-point range.
 
Kostecka and Loyola continue on the road this week, playing on Wednesday, January 23, at Bucknell University in a 7 p.m. game.
