CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland's
Kaleigh Gallagher was announced as the Patriot League Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week in a release by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Gallagher (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) receives her first-career weekly honor after scoring the game-winning goal in Loyola's 2-1 win over Lafayette on Saturday. The victory broke a tie between the two teams in the Patriot League standings, allowing the Greyhounds (6-6-2, 3-1-2) to take over sole possession of second place.
The deciding strike came in the 18th minute, as Gallagher took a cross from
Taylor DiMarco, maneuvered around two Lafayette defenders and beat the goalkeeper on a low shot into the right corner. The goal was Gallagher's first this season and her second overall at Loyola. She has appeared in all 14 games on the year, earning starts in each of the last 13 contests.
Hannah Hoefs, who opened the scoring for Loyola on a long-distance effort in the 16th minute, was included among those receiving honorable mention recognition from the conference. Hoefs continues to lead the Patriot League in both goals (7) and points (17).
Gallagher becomes the fourth different Loyola player to earn a Patriot League weekly award this season, joining Hoefs (3x),
Sarah Bayer and
Paige Sim.
The Greyhounds have three games remaining in the regular season, as they continue to push for their Patriot League tournament appearance since 2015. Loyola travels to Bucknell for a 7 p.m. matchup on Wednesday before returning to Ridley Athletic Complex on Homecoming weekend to host Colgate at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
