BALTIMORE — Reagan Mallia scored the game-tying goal in the 55th minute, as the Loyola University Maryland women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie against the 10th ranked Arkansas University Razorbacks on Sunday night.
The result was the Greyhounds highest win or tie against a ranked opponent in program history.
Arkansas struck first in the 27th minute when Zoe Susi converted a penalty kick, but Loyola refused to fold. The Greyhounds absorbed pressure throughout a physical opening half — Arkansas outshot them 7–2 — yet stayed composed behind goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer, who delivered a standout performance with five saves, including three in the final 15 minutes as the Razorbacks pushed for a winner.
Loyola's breakthrough came in the 55th minute, and it was a moment of individual brilliance. Reagan Mallia, who scored on a olimpico off of a corner kick to bring the game level. The goal energized Loyola, which generated four second‑half corner kicks and tightened defensively as Arkansas continued to fire from distance.
Goetzer's command in goal anchored Loyola's response. She denied Ivy Harding in the 56th minute, turned away a driven shot from Aniyah Nurse‑Whyte in the 62nd, and made back‑to‑back saves on Bella Field and Cora Hair in the 80th minute to preserve the draw.
Despite being outshot 16–3, the Greyhounds' defensive organization — led by Geneve Pouliot, Eva McGorian, and a rotation of midfielders who absorbed Arkansas's pressure — kept the match within reach. Loyola also weathered a physical contest, finishing with 14 fouls but conceding no goals from open play.
Mallia's equalizer marked her first goal of the season, and the Greyhounds (0‑0‑2) remain unbeaten through two matches. Arkansas (0‑1‑1) controlled possession and tempo, but Loyola's resilience ensured the Razorbacks left Baltimore without a win.
The Greyhounds return to action later this week as they continue their nonconference slate, as they will hit the road to travel to face Princeton on Thursday.
