Final Week Of The Regular-Season

  • Loyola plays its final regular-season games of the 2019 season this week when the Greyhounds travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, for a Tuesday, November 12, match at Lehigh University, and then host the U.S. Military Academy on Saturday, November 16.
  • The Greyhounds and Mountain Hawks will play Tuesday night at 7 o'clock.
  • Saturday's game in Reitz Arena against Army West Point will start at 2 p.m. with a Senior Day ceremony honoring Ann Ernst and Molly Jarvis prior to the contest.

Last Time Out

  • Ann Ernst moved into sixth-place in career kills in Patriot League history on Sunday, but the Greyhounds lost in four at Navy, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20.
  • Ernst had a match-best 21 kills and hit .311 from the outside to move past American University's Karla Kucerkova and into sixth all-time with 1,548. The Chicago native is third all-time at Loyola.
  • Abby Hamilton finished with 15 kills, and Molly Jarvis added nine for the Greyhounds, but Maddi Sgattoni (14), Avery Stowell (13) and Amanda Montag (12) combined for 39 kills to buoy the Midshipmen.

Playoff Picture

  • Loyola can clinch its second-straight appearnace in the Patriot League Championships two ways. The Greyhounds will get in with a win over either Lehigh or Army West Point or a loss by Bucknell in one of its final matches against Navy and Colgate.

Tag Team

  • Ann Ernst and Abby Hamilton have been the most prolific hitting tandem in the Patriot League this season, ranking first and second, respectively, in total kills. Ernst has posted 444 kills, while Hamilton has 405 in one additional set thus far for the Greyhounds.
  • On a per-set basis, Ernst is first in the conference with 4.07 kills, while Hamilton checks in fourth at 3.68. In Patriot League matches, they rank first and third with Ernst averaging 4.52 and Hamilton 3.92.
  • They are also the only set of teammates who both rank in the top-30 in NCAA Division I in total kills this year.

Closing In On Another Record

  • Katie Forsythe set the Patriot League and Loyola single-season records for digs last season with 697, a total she is 24 away from topping this year. With 674 digs this season, she has the two highest totals in school and conference history.
  • Forsythe added another mark in the books on October 26 against Holy Cross. She tied the conference and set the school single-match records for digs with 46 against the Crusaders.
  • She matched the Naval Academy's Sydney Shearn who had 46 in a 2017 match against Army West Point. The 46 digs are tied for second-most in NCAA Division I this season.
  • In Patriot League matches this year, Forsythe is averaging 6.78 digs per set (6.13 overall), 1.98 digs per set more than the next-closest conference player.

Up The Charts

  • Ann Ernst had 21 kills on November 10 against Navy, moving into sixth in Patriot League history in total kills. With two matches left in the regular-season, she has 1,548 with Army West Point's Ariana Mankus (2009-12) next on the list with 1,563.
  • Against Holy Cross, Ann Ernst moved into third all-time at Loyola in kills, passing Sarah Becker's total of 1,463 from 1991-94. Ernst also moved into the Patriot League's all-time top-10 during the match. 
  • Last month, Ernst accomplished a milestone that only four other Loyola players have reached, becoming the fifth player in program history to reach 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
  • Her 444 kills this season are a career-high and rank ninth in school single-season history.
  • Over the course of her three-plus seasons – Ernst has played in 114 career matches – she has recorded 10 or more kills 85 times (74.6 percent of the time), 15 or more kills 48 times (42.1) and 20 or more 15 times (13.2).

Fastest To 1,000

  • Sophomore libero Katie Forsythe became the fastest player to 1,000 digs in Loyola and Patriot League history when she picked up her 15th of the match against NJIT on September 22. 
  • The Ohio native crossed the milestone in the second set of her 44th career match. Last year, she set the Patriot League and Loyola single-season records with 697 digs; she has 674 in 28 contests this year, and her 1,371 career digs rank fourth in Loyola's all-time history.

National Numbers

  • Katie Forsythe is second in all of NCAA Division I in total digs (674) this season, and she is ranked fourth in digs per set (6.13). Ann Ernst is 10th in total kills (444).
  • As a team, Loyola ranks fourth in total assists (1,398), fifth in digs (1,918) and sixth in kills (1,479).

Upping Her Output

  • Abby Hamilton started all 30 matches as a freshman and was second on the team with 354 kills, an average of 2.97 per set. This year, through 26 contests the Wisconsin native has increased her per-set mark significantly, checking in at 3.68 with 405 total kills. Hamilton has done this while raising her hitting percentage from .172 last year to .197 this season.
  • In matches two weeks ago at Lafayette and Bucknell, Hamilton had 41 kills with only four errors for a .366 hitting percentage. She had a career-best 23 kills on November 1 against Lafayette.
