CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland junior Andrew Kostecka was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday, earning the honor for the fourth time this season after he averaged 26.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.0 assists in a pair of Greyhounds games.
 
The guard from Germantown, Maryland, leads the Patriot League in scoring (21.6 points per game) and steals (2.6); nationally, he is tied for 26^th in points per game, tied for 14^th in total points (582), tied for 13^th in steals per game and tied for 11^th in total steals (69).
 
Last Wednesday, Kostecka helped key a second-half comeback as the Greyhounds edged American University, 86-84, on the road. He scored 19 of his career-high-tying 31 points after halftime as Loyola escaped what had been a 13-point deficit to pull even late and win on two Isaiah Hart free throws with under two seconds to play.
 
Kostecka then tallied a game-best 21 points on Sunday against Lafayette, pulling down seven rebounds and finishing with three steals and three assists, too.
 
His combination of offensive and defensive statistics is unique. He is the only player to average 21 or more points and 2.5 steals or higher. There are only five players who average 20 or more points and two or more steals per game: Murray State's Ja Morant, Duke's Zion Williamson, St. John's Shamorie Ponds and Louisiana Monroe's Daishon Smith.
 
Kostecka and the Greyhounds return to action in Reitz Arena on Wednesday, February 20, when they host the U.S. Naval Academy in a 7 p.m. game.
