PHILADELPHIA – The Loyola University Maryland distance medley relay team took almost 30 seconds off the previous school record on Thursday night, running the record time at the prestigious Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
Grayce Heinemann,
Molly Smith,
Senna Ohlsson and
Kayleigh Caggiano ran 11:48.93 to finish seventh in the College Women's Distance Medley Relay.
The quartet dropped over 29 seconds from the previous record of 12:18.36 by Emily Doucette, Kristina Krupa, Jackie D'Antonio and Alyssa Doyle in 2011 at the Penn Relays.
Heinemann opened the relay with a time of 3:46.81 in the 1,200 meters. She handed the baton to Smith who ran 55.86 in the 400 meters, a time that would be a school record if it was run in an open 400.
Ohlsson then ran the 800 meters in 2:09.96, and Caggiano finished the race with a time of 4:56.31 in the 1,600 meters.
Loyola will continue its weekend of competition on Saturday at Lehigh University's Covert Classic, starting at 11 a.m.
