Quick Hits About The 'Hounds

  • Loyola University Maryland plays its final regular-season home game on Tuesday, April 9, when it hosts Georgetown University in a 7 p.m. game.
  • The game will air live on CBS Sports Network.
  • Dating back to March 23, 2016, Loyola is averaging 12.74 goals over its last 54 games. The Greyhounds have scored less than 10 only seven times in that span.
  • Pat Spencer now holds the Loyola and Patriot League career records in both assists (209) and points (343). He set the Loyola assists mark in 2018 and the points record in 2019 against Navy.
  • Kevin Lindley is tied for tops in NCAA Division I in goals per game, averaging 4.10 per game through nine
  • Jacob Stover has 539 career saves, seventh on the NCAA's active leader board. Stover is third in NCAA Division I this year with a .603 saves percentage.
  • Pat Spencer has recorded two or more points in all but two of the 61 games to start his collegiate career, and he has 38 multi-goal and 50 multi-assist games. He has scored a point in all 61 outings.
  • Chase Scanlan leads all NCAA Division I midfielders with 30 goals.

Last Time Out

  • Pat Spencer scored three goals and had three assists in the first 20 minutes of Saturday's game to help Loyola take a 9-0 lead on Lehigh, and the senior finished with 11 points on five goals and six assists as the Greyhounds beat the Mountain Hawks, 15-9.
  • Bailey Savio won 16 of 27 faceoffs while picking up 11 ground balls; he went 10 of 13 at the dot in the second half.
  • Jacob Stover made 15 saves in goal for Loyola, his 11th-straight game with 10 or more.
  • Chase Scanlan and Aidan Olmstead each added three goals for the Greyhounds.
  • Spencer was honored with 11 of his Class of 2019 teammates prior to the game in a Senior Day ceremony, and he put Loyola on the scoreboard first. Cam Wyers caused a turnover on the defensive end for the Greyhounds, and Loyola cleared to its offensive end. Spencer bodied up to his defender, turned back to his right and scored low 1:46 into the contest, starting the opening run.
  • Aidan Olmstead then had two-straight goals for Loyola, tallying the second to make it 9-0 with 10:09 to play in the second quarter.

In The Polls

  • Loyola moved up to number two in the USILA Coaches Poll, matching its number two ranking the Inside Lacrosse media version.
  • Georgetown is receiving votes in both polls.

Series History

  • Georgetown and the Greyhounds will play for the 42nd time in series history on Tuesday. The Greyhounds have a 34-7 advantage in the previous 40 meetings, thanks in large part to a 20-game winning streak from 1974-2001.
  • The Hoyas were victorious in five of six from 2002-2007, but Georgetown's win in 2015 at Ridley Athletic Complex snapped a seven-game Loyola winning streak in the Jesuit-school rivalry.
  • Last year, Loyola men's lacrosse used matching 4-0 runs in both halves to defeat the host Hoyas, 11-8.
  • Jay Drapeau scored four times on six shots, and Pat Spencer had two goals and five assists, to lead the Greyhounds. Jacob Stover made nine saves in goal, and Loyola went 12-of-23 on faceoffs.

Turn On The Television

  • Tuesday's game will air live on CBS Sports Network with Ben Holden calling the play-by-play and Evan Washburn providing color commentary.

Conference Honors

  • After the Greyhounds' win against Lehigh, Pat Spencer (Offensive Player), Cam Wyers (Defensive Player) and Jacob Stover (Goalkeeper) earned Patriot League Weekly Awards. Spencer's was the 11th of his career and fifth of the season, while Stover earned his ninth overall and fourth this year. Wyers, a freshman, has earned two this season.

Two With Ten

  • Kevin Lindley and Pat Spencer combined to score 10 goals and assist on 10 on March 30 against Colgate, becoming the first NCAA Division I teammates to record 10 points each in the last decade.
  • Spencer then became the first Loyola player in history and the first NCAA Division I player since 2015 (University at Albany's Lyle Thompson) to post 10 or more in back-to-back games. He had 11 on five goals and six assists against Lehigh. Spencer is the only player this season to have 10 or more points in three games.

Two In First

  • Loyola players are first, or tied for first, in NCAA Division I both points and goals per game. Pat Spencer is tops in points (7.33), while Kevin Lindley checks in at the same spot in goals (4.10) per game.
  • Spencer is also second in assists per game (4.30) and sixth in goals per game (3.40). He is the only player ranked in the top-15 of goals, assists and points per game.

King Of Points

  • Pat Spencer set the Loyola career record for points on March 19, 2019, breaking the mark of 311 set by Gary Hanley from 1978-81. Spencer tied Hanley with an unassisted goal 5:45 before halftime against Navy, and he broke the points record with an assist on a Kevin Lindley transition goal 35 seconds before the break.

Both Sides Of The Field

  • Loyola is the only team ranked in the top-10 of NCAA Division I teams in scoring offense (3rd, 15.0) and scoring defense (9th, 9.50). The Greyhounds and Maryland are the only two teams to be in the top-15 of both. As a result, Loyola is No. 2 nationally in scoring margin (+5.50).

Chart Topping

  • Spencer now holds both the Patriot League and Loyola records for points (343) and assists (209) and is third all-time at the school in goals (134).
  • Spencer has 134 goals through 61 career games, a total ranked second after he passed Pat Lamon (133, 1983-86) in the Lehigh game. Hanley (151) is the school-record-holder in goals. The  2017 and 2018 Tewaaraton Award finalist, he is first among active NCAA Division I players in assists, goals and points.
  • Against Virginia in the 2018 NCAA First Round game, Spencer moved into the top-10 of NCAA Division I history in assists. Versus Lehigh on April 6, Spencer moved into third in career assists with 209, passing Cornell's Rob Pannell (204, 2009-13) and Brown's Darren Lowe (205, 1989-92). Albany's Lyle Thompson (225, 2012-15) is the all-time leader, and North Carolina State/Syracuse's Tim Nelson (221, 1982; 1983-85) is second.
  • Versus Lehigh, Spencer also moved into a tie for sixth in career points (343), matching Air Force's Joe Vasta (1983-86). Duke's Justin Guterding (2015-18) is fifth with 351, while the Blue Devils' Matt Danowski (353, 2004-08) is fourth.

Alone At The Top

  • Pat Spencer set the Loyola single-season assist and points records during the 2018 NCAA First Round win over Virginia. He assisted on a Kevin Lindley goal in the first two minutes of the second quarter, breaking his own assist record of 55 set last season. His assist on a Lindley goal to start scoring in the second half was his 90th point of the year, breaking the record of 89 set in 1981 by Gary Hanley and matched in 2016 by Spencer. He finished the year with 35 goals, 59 assists and 94 points.
  • Spencer became Loyola's all-time leader in assists (now 209 in 61 career games) during the 2018 Patriot League Championship Game, breaking the mark of 160 set by Hanley in 1981.
  • In the Patriot League Semifinals, Spencer set the Patriot League record for career points (now with 343), passing Bucknell University's Chris Cara (2002-05). Earlier in the 2018 season, he set the Patriot League's all-time assist record.

Veteran In Goal

  • Jacob Stover returns for his fourth season as a starter at Loyola, having played 3,015 minutes between the pipes for the Greyhounds. The 2018 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year 2019 Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook Preseason All-American has a career 8.38 goals-against average in 55 games.
  • Stover has made saves on 56.1 percent of the shots on goal he has faced and has a 40-12 career record for the Greyhounds.
  • He closed the 2018 season with one of the best performances of his career. Stover made a career-best 19 saves against Yale University in the NCAA Quarterfinals while yielding only eight goals to the Bulldogs.
  • He has picked up where he left off, making 18 saves in 2019 season-opener against Virginia, 12 versus Johns Hopkins, 18 at Rutgers University, 13 at Towson and 11 versus Holy Cross, 15 at Duke, 14 versus Navy, 15 at Bucknell, 13 against Colgate and 15 versus Lehigh to give him 163 in his last 11 games (14.8 per game).
  • Stover's .605 saves percentage is No. 3 in NCAA Division I this year.

Lindley Leading

  • Kevin Lindley has been on fire to start the 2019 season, scoring 41 goals in 10 games, and he is tied for tops in NCAA Division I with 4.10 goals per game. He has tallied four or more in all but two of the contests, including eight against Colgate, six at Towson and versus Holy Cross and five versus Virginia and Navy.
  • Lindley finished his freshman season in 2018 with 37 goals, all but five of which were unassisted. Three of those unassisted goals came after Lindley picked up ground balls on rebounds of saved shots and scored immediately.  In the 2019 season-opener against Virginia, Lindley scored five goals, three unassisted off dodges. With one unassisted versus Holy Cross, he has six already this year.
  • Lindley's .506 shot percentage is good for seventh in the nation this season.
  • He is second on the active career leader with 2.89 goals per game.

Strong Start

  • Chase Scanlan is off to a solid start to his Loyola career, scoring 30 goals to go with 10 assists for 40 points in 10 games. He is tied for 14th nationally with 3.0 goals per game, tops amongst all NCAA Division I freshmen, and his 30 goals are also most both by a first-year player and for midfielders of any experience. He is also third among freshmen with 4.00 points per game.
  • Scanlan has earned three Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors this season.

Three Of The Top

  • Three Loyola players are ranked in the top-12 nationally in goals per game just over midway through the 2019 season. Kevin Lindley is first (4.44), Pat Spencer is eighth (3.22) and Chase Scanlan is tied for 12th (3.0).
  • Only one other team – Georgetown with Daniel Bucaro (T-4th, 3.40) and Jake Carraway (T-19th, 2.9) – has two players ranked amongst the top-20 and ties.

Extra, Extra

  • Loyola has taken 35 penalties in 10 games this year, but the Greyhounds have given up just seven extra-man goals. They are killing penalties 78.8 percent of the time, good for fifth in the nation.
  • On the other side of things, Loyola is ninth nationally on extra-man offense, scoring 42.9 percent of the time. The Greyhounds are the only school to be ranked in the top-10 of both categories.

Shot Selection

  • Loyola finished the 2018 season with a .351 shooting percentage this season marking just the third time the Greyhounds have shot 30 percent or better in the last 10 seasons (.312 in 2014; .301 in 2017). Loyola's shot percentage led the Patriot League and was sixth in NCAA Division I. Of the players on Loyola's starting attacker and first and second midfields, all nine shot .271 or better, and six of that group were at .325 or higher.
  • In the first 10 games of 2019, the Greyhounds have shot .378 overall, ranking third in NCAA Division I.

Defense Making A Stand

  • Over the last 37 games (10 in 2017, 17 in 2018, 10 in 2019) – beginning with a March 18, 2017 win over the U.S. Naval Academy – Loyola's defense has allowed just 8.16 goals per game. The Greyhounds also have an advantage of 470-580 in turnovers (12.7-15.8) as they have gone 27-8 during the stretch.
  • Of its opponents' 580 turnovers in the last 37 games, Loyola has caused 339.

Youthful On Close D

  • Loyola's starting defense against Navy – Paul Volante, John Railey and Cam Wyers – came into the game with a combined 41 games of collegiate experience prior to this year, all belonging to Volante, a senior and three-year starter. Wyers has started every game of his freshman year thus far, and Railey made his first career start after missing 2017 and 2018 due to injury. Wyers and Railey each had three caused turnovers against the Midshipmen.

Toomey's Team

  • Charley Toomey is in his 14th year as the head coach at Loyola and his 23rd as a member of the Greyhounds' coaching staff. Overall, he is in his 27th year on the Evergreen campus, including his four seasons as a student-athlete from 1986-90.
  • Toomey has directed the Greyhounds to 97 wins, an average of 12.6 per season (not including this season) since 2012, and has a 142-66 career record. Early in the 2016 season, Toomey became the second coach in program history to reach and cross the 100-win plateau; he stands second on the program's all-time wins chart behind his college coach, Dave Cottle (181-70, 1983-2001).
  • As a head coach, Toomey has coached 38 USILA All-Americans, 71 all-conference selections, 18 conference positional or players or rookies of the year, four Tewaaraton Award finalists and 13 USILA Scholar All-Americans.
  • In January 2019, Toomey was named to the coaching staff of the U.S. Men's National Team as an assistant coach. He will serve with Team USA in preparation for, and competition in, the 2022 World Championships in British Columbia. He was also enshrined in the USLacrosse Chesapeake Chapter Hall of Fame in January 2019 for his accomplishments as a player and a coach.

Get To Ten

  • Since Charley Toomey became head coach at Loyola in 2006, the Greyhounds have scored 10 or more goals on 128 occasions; Loyola has won 81.3 percent of those games (104-24).
