LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association revealed its Team Academic Award recipients for the 2018-19 season on Monday, with Loyola University Maryland included among 189 honorees from Division I.
The award recognizes collegiate volleyball teams that maintained a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average during the academic year. The Greyhounds, who clinched their first-ever Patriot League tournament appearance last fall, were just as impressive in the classroom with a cumulative GPA of 3.60 following the spring semester. For the 2018-19 academic year alone, Loyola registered a team GPA of 3.718.
The achievement was truly a collective effort, as all 15 team members finished with GPA's over 3.0 in 2018-19.
Alaina Acchione,
Alisah Cash,
Ann Ernst and
Sydney Wilcenski all recorded 4.0 GPA's during the spring semester, while Acchione and
Haley Puddy had 4.0's in the fall.
Loyola was one of three Patriot League institutions honored by the AVCA, joining American and Lehigh. A total of 506 schools were recognized across the three NCAA divisions.
