BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland women's soccer looks to get back on track this weekend with a pair of non-conference matchups, as the Greyhounds host Yale at 7 p.m. on Friday before traveling to Marist for a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday. The Greyhounds have lost their last two games by a combined 7-1 margin after starting the year with a 2-1 overtime victory over Seton Hall.
Friday is Movie Night at Ridley Athletic Complex. All fans in attendance will receive free admission and a chance to watch The Secret Life of Pets 2 on the field with the team after the contest.
Last Time Out
- Junior Claire Beath recorded her first goal of the season midway through the first half, but that was the only offense for Loyola in a 3-1 home loss to Quinnipiac at Ridley last Sunday.
- Olivia Scott had a goal and two assists for the Bobcats (3-0), who outshot the Greyhounds by a 15-9 margin.
- Beath's goal was the third of her collegiate career, and her first since Oct. 17 last season at American.
- The Greyhounds dropped to 5-2 in their past seven home games against non-conference opponents.
Series History
- This will be the first meeting between Loyola and Yale since the 1997 season, with the Greyhounds winning the previous contest by a 2-1 final.
- Loyola last faced an Ivy League opponent on Sept. 2, 2016, dropping a 1-0 home decision to Cornell. The Greyhounds' last win over an Ivy League team came on Sept. 28, 2005 against Penn (3-0).
- Sunday marks the first meeting between Loyola and Marist since the former conference rivals met in the MAAC title game on Nov. 4, 2012. The Greyhounds topped the Red Foxes 2-1 in that contest to win their 10th and final MAAC championship.
- Loyola is 13-5-4 lifetime against Marist (5-1-3 under current head coach Joe Mallia).
About The Bulldogs and Red Foxes
- Yale (1-1) was projected to finish seventh out of eight teams in the Ivy League preseason poll. Brendan Faherty is in his first season as head coach after spending three seasons at Stony Brook.
- The Bulldogs topped Fairfield by a 5-1 final last Sunday after beginning the year with a 2-1, double overtime loss at St. John's.
- Freshman Ellery Winkler was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Monday after totaling three goals and an assist in Yale's first two contests.
- Marist was ranked fourth out of 11 schools in the MAAC preseason poll. The Red Foxes finished 9-8-2 (7-2-1 MAAC) a year ago,
- Marist (2-2) outscored Towson (3-0) and Delaware State (5-0) by a combined 8-0 margin in its two victories this season, suffering a 3-1 setback at Drexel in between. The Red Foxes fell 5-0 at New Hampshire in their most-recent contest on Thursday.
- Sophomore Victoria Colatosti leads the team with four goals and an assist. She was honored as MAAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Looking Ahead
- Friday will conclude a stretch of four scheduled home games out of five to begin the season (the first of those home games, against St. Francis, was cancelled due to lightning).
- The trip to Marist then begins a run of four out of five contests to be played on the road through Sept. 24, with only a Sept. 13 matchup with VMI taking place at Ridley during that span.
