BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis traveled down Cold Spring Lane on Saturday to open their 2019-2020 seasons at Morgan State University's Bear Invitational, an event in which teams play in a 4+1 format with four singles matches and a single doubles contest.
The Greyhounds won all three of their matches on Saturday with the women defeating Coppin State University and Harford Community College, and the men taking down Coppin State.
In the women's match against Harford,
Genevieve Wurtz posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Paula Martinez at No. 2 singles and
Brooke Santoriello beat Kelly Hudak, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.
Sydney Lund had her first competition for the Greyhounds, beating Camila Lopez, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4.
Sandra Aguirre and Taylor Kunkel teamed for a 6-0 win in doubles play.
Against the Eagles,
Kateri Martin opened a 5-0 team sweep with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Tina Gwaze at No. 1 singles, and
Abigail Thornton beat Sharial Dunwell, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.
Abby Decker beat Brittanie Cahua, 6-3, 1-0 (retired/injury) at No. 3, and Aguirre was a 6-4, 6-1 victor against Mackenzie Jones at No. 4.
Lin Robertson and
Alexandria Agee paired for a 6-0 win over Gwaze and Dunwell in doubles.
Loyola's men opened against Coppin State, squeezing out a 3-2 win.
Kyle Gower was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles, and
Edik Pribitkin scored a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 2.
The teams will be back in action at Morgan State on Sunday with the men kicking things off at 1:30 p.m. against Harford.
