BALTIMORE – The Loyola University Maryland men's tennis team played its first match of the 2026-2027 season, starting competition at the Loyola Invitational with a 6-1 victory over Coppin State on Friday afternoon at the McClure Tennis Center.

The Greyhounds swept doubles play to take an early advantage. At No. 1, Alejandro Rotundo and Cristian Pemueller defeated Flavius Henderson II and Dentry Mortimer, 6-2. Eddie Roake and Khai Rees followed with a 6-3 victory over Awungjia Mbelem and Andre Dogbefu at No. 2, while Ryan Gill and Aidan Francia Cotter completed the doubles sweep with a 6-2 win against Mpho Leshoele and Malcolm Moore at No. 3.

Loyola carried that momentum into singles competition, winning five of six matches. Petter Hagen earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Dogbefu at No. 1, and Blake Edwards added a 6-4, 6-4 win against Henderson at No. 2. Coppin State's lone point came at No. 3, where Leshoele defeated David Suarez, 7-5, 6-4.

The Greyhounds closed the match with victories at the final three positions. Cyrus Shivkumar topped Mortimer, 6-1, 2-6, (10-4), at No. 4, Pemueller defeated Moore, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5, and Francia Cotter posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mbelem at No. 6.

Loyola improved to 1-0 at the Loyola Invitational with the victory.
