LEXINGTON, Ky. – Loyola University Maryland graduate Molly Werts '19 was one of 40 national recipients of the 2020 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Diversity Award that will provide young women and men educational and developmental opportunities through the organization.
Werts, who was a setter on the Greyhounds' 2018 team that was the first in program history to reach the Patriot League Championships, and her award class will be given free access to the 2020 AVCA Virtual Convention. They will then receive the benefit of attending the in-person 2021 AVCA Convention that is slated for Columbus, Ohio.
Through both of those events, Diversity Award recipients will participate in a variety of relationship-building experiences and educational and developmental workshops.
Werts was the recipient of an award that was sponsored by Patriot League head coaches and given to a former conference student-athlete. She, and the rest of her cohort, will also have access to the AVCA Diversity Award winner alumni program which consists of continuing education, relationship building, and mentoring upon completion of the initial programming.
A four-year player for the Greyhounds, Werts saw action in 113 matches from 2015-18. She logged 2,118 assists and 911 digs for Loyola and Head Coach

Since graduating with her Bachelor of Arts in communication in 2019, Werts has worked in the Baltimore area and coaches volleyball. She is a implantation specialist for WebbMason Marketing, and she coaches the head coach of the Masters Volleyball Academy 16s Travel Team.
