Hayburn Earns Second Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week Honor

Jimmy Hayburn (R) with teammates Conor Rutigliano, Jay Venit and Sung Lee after setting a 200 medley relay school record in December.
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland sophomore Jimmy Hayburn was announced as the Patriot League's Male Swimmer of the Week for a second time in the past three weeks in a release by the league office on Tuesday morning.

Hayburn (Bowie, Md./St. Mary's) takes home the award after breaking his own school record in the 50-yard butterfly during a dual victory over Mount St. Mary's over the weekend. He touched the wall in 22.44, finishing 0.06 under his previous mark which was established in November, 2018.

Hayburn also won the 50 freestyle on Saturday with a time of 20.75, and he swam the third leg in Loyola's victorious 200 medley relay to begin the afternoon. Hayburn has won the 50 free in eight of Loyola's 10 duals on the year.

For the year, Hayburn ranks second among Patriot League swimmers in the 50 free with a season-best mark of 20.36, and he is 11th in the 100 free with a top time of 45.63.

Emily Koegl, who contributed to four event wins for the Loyola women on her Senior Day, was selected as an honorable mention selection for this week's Patriot League awards. She took first place individually in the 50 fly, 100 fly and 100 individual medley, and also swam on Loyola's winning 200 medley relay squad.

The Greyhounds have completed the regular season portion of their schedule this winter. Next up is the Patriot League Championships, which will be held at Navy on Feb. 19-22.
