Welcome to week three of #WhatsInTheBag presented by
Pinnacle Advisory Group! Today, we welcome another special guest to the series – a terrific golfer in her own right –
Donna M. Woodruff, Loyola's Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics.
Nickname: "Can't believe I am going to share this…but my nickname is "Dud" as started by a college teammate 30 years ago. My teammates still call me that to this day 😕… Some former colleagues also call me "Dubs" (short for DW)."
Favorite memory of the season: "I have two favorite recent memories involving the Loyola golf team. One was actually last year when I got my first hole-in-one while playing with my husband, Mark, down at Sea Island. I had played two rounds with members of our team a few weeks before that, and I know that helped me! The second was in October at the inaugural Hamptons Intercollegiate hosted by Loyola at the incomparable Maidstone Club. I played in a foursome on the practice day along with junior
Nick Mejia. Nick was awesome (and probably why our foursome won!), and it was a phenomenal few days on Long Island with Loyola team members, alumni, family and friends of the program."
How are you keeping busy in quarantine: "I am trying to stick to a bit of a routine as I have work calls, virtual meetings and a ton of emails to answer every day. Uncertainty with NCAA, Patriot League and institutional athletic plans require a lot of daily discussion since the landscape is changing constantly. Keeping in touch with our Loyola coaches, student-athletes and staff has been very important. I balance that with a personal commitment to work out every day. We bought a Peloton for Christmas and it has been a blessing to have the ability not only to ride the bike, but we also have access to yoga, cardio, meditation, stretching and treadmill workouts through the digital app. No excuses to not be in shape by the time golf season finally gets here!"
What are you going to focus on this summer to be ready this fall: "If I was competing this fall, I could always use some work on my short game accuracy and consistency; however, I fail to practice as much as I should in that regard. I am however looking forward to cheering on all of our teams in their fall competitions and hope to be at a few of our Loyola golf matches in person."
