BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland juniors
Brandon Berry and
Evan Brown were named to the 2019-2020 PING All-Northeast Region Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
The classmates had two of the best seasons in Loyola history, despite the shortened schedule.
Brown set a school-record with a Patriot League-leading average score of 70.95. Meanwhile, Berry played in the same number of rounds, 19, and had the fifth-best stroke average in Loyola history, 72.58, a mark which was fourth-best amongst Patriot League players this year.
Now a two-time All-Northeast Region honoree after garnering the recognition last season, Brown was the 94
th ranked player in NCAA Division I by Golfstat and fourth in the Northeast Region when the season was cut short. He cemented that status with a pair of second-place finishes in the Greyhounds' last two competitions. He tied for second with a three-round total of 10-under at the Loyola Intercollegiate in Arizona followed by a second-place 11-under a week later at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate.
Brown also set a Loyola record in scoring to par, posting a 0.47-under average, making him the first player in program history to finish the year with a sub-par average. Twelve of his 19 rounds in 2019-2020 were par or better, and he beat 89.2 percent of the opponents he faced during the season individually. Earlier in the year, he had a fifth-place finish at the VCU Intercollegiate and then finished tied for ninth at Wake Forest's Old Town Collegiate, a tournament that featured nine teams ranked in Golfweek's top-100.
Berry put together one of the top seasons in school history, as well. He had two top-six finishes and four top-15 outcomes. His +1.16 average to par is also fifth-best at Loyola and was one of the best in the conference this year. HE started the year with a 15
th-place at the VCU and then three weeks later turned in a sixth-place finish at the Hamptons Intercollegiate that Loyola hosted at the Maidstone Club.
A fourth-place finish at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate finished his fall, and he wrapped-up his season at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate with a 15
th-place finish.
