UPPSALA, Sweden – Loyola University Maryland rising senior Senna Ohlsson has written her name throughout the Greyhounds record books during her three seasons at the school. This summer, she has taken her spikes across the Atlantic Ocean to continue to run at a high level.
 
With dual citizenship between the United States and Sweden, Ohlsson has run in four meets and will compete in the country's national championships this weekend. Ohlsson will start her program at the Swedish Athletics Championships in Uppsala on Saturday, August 15, in the 800 heats.
 
Over the course of the last three weeks, she has run the two fastest times in school history, rising to the fourth-fastest 800-meter time by a Swedish woman, fastest in the U-22 age group, in 2020.
 
A three-time Patriot League 800-meter champion – 2019 and 2020 indoor and 2019 outdoor – Ohlsson ran her first race this year in Sweden on July 25, at the Bannister Running Invitational #5 in Slottskogvallen. She finished fourth out of 31 competitors, crossing the finish line in 2:08.70.
 
She then ran at the Näkaracet Invitational, winning the race in record-setting fashion. She ran a personal-best and school-record time of 2:07.45 in that race to eclipse the previous Loyola-best of 2:08.52 by Cordelia McGinn during the 2018 season.
 
Ohlsson then dropped nearly another second off her record, running 2:06.88 at the Folksam Sollentuna Grand Prix, a part of the World Athletics Continental Tour – on Monday, August 10.
 
In addition to her success on the track, Ohlsson is a standout in the classroom at Loyola. She is a three-time Academic All-Patriot League honoree, and she became the first Loyola student-athlete to be named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team this year.
