BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League released its weekly award winners for women's soccer on Monday afternoon, with Loyola University Maryland junior
Paige Sim recognized as Goalkeeper of the Week and freshman
Elizabeth Gallagher honored as the conference's Rookie of the Week following a 2-0 win over Lafayette on Saturday.
Sim takes home her third weekly award of the season after making three saves, all in the second half, to preserve the shutout over the weekend. Her four clean sheets lead the conference, and she has now held Patriot League opponents to one goal or fewer in 20 of 21 career starts against conference schools. In seven games at Ridley Athletic Complex this season, Sim is 4-2-1 with a 0.56 GAA and .852 save percentage.
Gallagher receives her first weekly award after netting her first collegiate goal in the second half on Saturday. She provided a key insurance strike for the Greyhounds in the 88th minute, taking a pass from
Jess Korman and beating Lafayette's charging goalkeeper with a low shot into the right corner. The victory moved Loyola into a tie for third place in the Patriot League standings with seven points through four conference games.
Kelly Hutton, who scored her second game-winning goal of the season on a header off a free kick in the 37th minute, was included among those receiving honorable mention accolades from the conference.
The Greyhounds are currently level with American, Colgate and Lehigh in the standings, while Boston University and Bucknell occupy the top two spots with nine points apiece. Five games still remain for Loyola in the regular season, beginning with a road matchup against Holy Cross at 12 p.m. next Saturday.
