FAIRFAX STATION, Va. – The Loyola University men's and women's rowing teams opened November with a string of solid performances on Saturday at the Head of the Occoquan in Northern Virginia.
"Loyola Rowing had a really good day on the Occoquan," said Head Coach
Megan Patrick. "We've been in the ballpark with some of these teams like George Mason and George Washington before, but this is the first time we've been on the upside of the contest. A lot of elements are starting to come together, and the hard work is paying off."
The men's novice eight boat had the highest finish of the day, taking third out of 12 boats with a time of 18:11.00, while two women's JV boats, the eight and the four, both finished fourth.
Loyola's women's junior varsity eight was fourth in 20:29.12, while the four also had a fourth-place finish in 22:43.05.
The men's varsity eight rowed to a sixth-place finish in 17:21.69, beating George Mason by more than 15 seconds and the junior varsity eight captured fifth in 19:23.75, also topping the Patriots.
Later, the women's varsity eight came in sixth out of 14 boats, crossing the line in 19:34.77, and the novice eight was seventh out of 17 in 21:46.07.
The women's varsity four was 17
th out of 20, racing to the line in 26:47.58
Loyola will close its fall schedule with the Manhattan Invitational in Leonia, New Jersey on Sunday, November 14.
