STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Loyola University Maryland's indoor track and field team opened its 2021-2022 schedule on Friday, racing indoors at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex at the Seahawk Shootout.
Six Greyhounds had top-10 finishes individually in races with
Abby Potticary's fourth-place time in the 3,000 meters leading the way.
Potticary clocked 10:31.10 in the race, the 10
th-best time in school indoor 3,000-meter history, and the fastest time by a Loyola runner in the event since January 2018.
Two other Greyhounds were in the top-10 in the race as
Grayce Heinemann finished seventh (10:40.04), and Catie O'Hehir was 10
th (10:58.70).
Kate Ragone showed a strong sixth-place in the mile, crossing the line in 5:16.09.
Sammie Spargo was 11
th in the event, running 5:45.66, while
Marissa Branham and
Isabel Slimm were 15
th (5:50.72) and 18
th (5:53.90), respectively.
Olivia Malley took eighth in the 600 meters with a time of 1:38.81, tops among the four Loyola runners in the event.
Ajia Morrison was 15
th (1:43.28),
Melanie Torales took 26
th (1:49.54) and
Eve Schoenberg finished 27
th (1:49.58).
Maeve Lowther placed sixth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:14.71 with
Kasey Boag coming in 11
th (3:25.89).
Allegra Devoe and Bridget Hacket were 14
th (3:28.39) and 15
th (3:31.14) in the event.
Madelyn Ricard and
Jessica Boos finished within one-hundredth of a second of each other in the 60 meters, with times of 8.41 and 8.42, respectively to finish 24
th and 25
th.
Elizabeth Gallagher was close behind in 27
th (8.53), and
Ainsley Jodlbauer finished 36
th (8.66).
Ava Dunn had a 30
th-place time in the 300 meters, running 44.41, while
Megan McCusker was 33
rd (44.70) and Carolina O'Connell 54
th (47.55).
Loyola had two entries in the 4x400-meter relay with the grouping of Dunn, Boos,
Isabella Coleman and Heinemann running sixth in 4:21.02; McCusker, Schoenberg, Branham and Boag were a spot behind in 4:25.47.
The Greyhounds' sprint-medley relay team of Ragone, Schoenberg, Morrison and Malley finished seventh in 4:33.52.
Loyola will return to competition in the new year when they head to State College, Pennsylvania, for the Nittany Lion Challenge on Saturday, January 15.
