BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland track & field took part in its first competition in 350 days on Sunday, as the Greyhounds traveled to Lehigh for a dual meet with the Mountain Hawks.
Kathleen Shepherd earned a victory for Loyola in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 9.38 to beat out Lehigh's Chae Eun Kim (9.51) by just over a tenth of a second. Shepherd also added a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a top distance of 4.98m which ranks ninth in program history.
Courtney Kenny led a group of eight Greyhounds in the 400m, as her time of 1:00.60 edged out teammate
Stephanie Tracy (1:00.82).
Taylor McHugh (1:04.14),
Ava Dunn (1:05.12) and
Megan McCusker (1:05.94) rounded out the top five.
Danielle Spano added a strong showing in the 200m, as her mark of 27.71 was good enough for second place in a field of 14 runners. McHugh (27.96) was the next Greyhound finisher in fifth.
Loyola had two crack the top five in the 800m, as
Olivia Malley (2:20.22) placed third while
Carly Spinnler (2:22.97) was fourth.
Abby Potticary had the top showing for the Greyhounds in the mile, completing the race in a fifth-place time of 5:17.96.
Loyola returns to action next weekend, taking part in the Patriot League Challenge at Navy on Saturday.
