Track & Field Opens Outdoor Schedule At Navy Spring Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Kathleen Shepherd set a school long jump record and had the second-best 100-meter hurdles time in school history Saturday as the Loyola University Maryland women's track and field team began its 2021 outdoor schedule in a four-school competition at the Navy Spring Invitational.

Shepherd lept 17'1.5" (5.22 meters) to eclipse the previous school-best of 17'0" (5.19m) that she shared in a 2018 jump with Melanie Mitchell's 2009 effort.

Later in the day, she ran in the 100m hurdles, clocking a time of 15.25 to finish second with the second-fastest time in school history, just shy of Gillian Blackwood's 2019 time of 15.02.

Courtney Kenny had the fourth-best 200 meters time in program history, running 25.52 to finish third overall. The senior now owns the five fastest 200 times at Loyola. Stephanie Tracy was sixth in the 200 (26.05), and Ava Dunn took eighth (26.99).

Rachel Koller was just off her school-record time in the 100 meters, running 12.57, five-hundredths of a second back of her 2019 record. She was sixth overall in the event as Loyola's top finisher.

Olivia Malley led four Greyhounds who were in the top-10 of the 800 meters as she took third in 2:18.75, just edging teammate Grayce Heinemann who was fourth in 2:15.90. Jordyn Pugh took seventh in 2:19.84, and Carly Spinnler was ninth in 2:21.42.

Kate Ragone finished second in the 5,000 meters, running 18:54.68.

Abigail Potticary was the team's top finisher in the 1,500 meters (4:48.53), and Jessica Boos led the Greyhounds in the 400 meters (63.43). Eve Schoenberg took fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (67.16), and Megan McCusker was seventh (68.68).

The 400-meter relay team of Koller, Malley, Tracy and Kenny finished second overall in 3:52.20, the fifth-best time in school history.

Five men's cross country runners also competed in distance events at the meet with Nathan Galloway's seventh-place finish in the 5,000 meters leading the way. He finished in 15:14.51, while Connor Rebele was ninth (16:40.73), and Camden Spring took 10th (16:47.80). Ethan GInyard finished 12th in the 1,500 meters (4:14.75), and Tyler Vega finished 14th (4:26.24).

Loyola returns to the track next weekend when it heads to the Towson Invitational.
