BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A pair of Loyola University Maryland juniors,
Katie Forsythe and
Abby Hamilton, were named to the Patriot League All-Academic Team on Friday, highlighting their performances on the court and in the classroom.
The classmates are two of seven who were honored with the award this season, and they join 2020 graduate Ann Ernst (2018 and 2019) as the only Greyhounds to receive the recognition since Loyola joined the conference in 2013.
Forsythe, an elementary education major with a 3.599 grade-point average, led the Patriot League, and is fourth in NCAA Division I through games of April 1, in digs per set this season with 6.04. Earlier in the week, she was named the conference's Libero of the Year for the third season in a row, and she also earned All-Patriot League First Team recognition.
She had 18 or more digs in all six of Loyola's matches this spring, and she posted 35 or more three times. Forsythe is the NCAA's active career leader in digs per set, and her 6.03 career average ranks third in NCAA history.
Hamilton, who is a dual major in materials engineering and mechanical engineering with a 3.889 mark in the classroom, was the Greyhounds' top hitter this season as she averaged 3.39 kills per set to go with a 2.86 digs per set mark.
She ranked fifth in the Patriot League in kills per set this year and had 14 or more in each of the Greyhounds matches. The Wisconsin native had double-doubles in five of the six matches with five of the six contests.
