LEXINGTON, Va. –
Kate Ragone ran a personal-best time Friday in the 1,000 meters, winning the event to highlight the Loyola University Maryland women's track and field team's opening day at the VMI Classic.
Ragone kicked her way to a win in the race, running 3:05.27 in the 28-person event. She won by just over a half-second, edging VMI's Gretal Shank who was second in 3:05.78.
Grayce Heinemann was one-tenth of a second back of Shank, placing third in 3:05.88, nine-tenths of a second in front of Bucknell's Lucie Kubinski who was fourth.
Kasey Boag was 16
th in the event in 3:21.70.
Catie O'Hehir also ran a personal-best on Friday, taking seventh in the 5,000 meters in 18:52.84.
The 4x800-meter relay team of
Eve Schoenberg,
Carly Spinnler,
Olivia Malley and
Ajia Morrison was second in its race with a time of 9:49.84.
Rhoda Miller led four Greyhounds in the 60 meters with a 27
th-place time of 8.25 seconds.
Jessica Boos was 32
nd in 8.43, followed by
Ainsley Jodlbauer (36
th, 8.66) and
Megan McCusker (37
th, 8.72).
Jodlbauer was the top finisher for Loyola in the 400 meters, running 29
th in 63.59, while McCusker was 31
st in 63.60.
Allegra Devoe took 41
st in 68.09.
The Greyhounds will continue competition in at the meet on Saturday.
