ANNAPOLIS, Md. –
Lauren Link had nine kills to lead Loyola University Maryland on Wednesday night, but the Greyhounds lost in three to the U.S. Naval Academy, 25-16, 25-20, 25-18.
Navy took a 9-8 lead in the first set on a service error, starting a 12-1 run that would see the Midshipmen take a 20-9 lead on a block by Jordan Llewellyn and Anna Klemeyer.
Loyola went into the lead, 17-16, after a
Morgan Crawford kill in the third, but Navy would tie on the next point with a Llewellyn kill and go on to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third, the Midshipmen scored five in a row to lead, 9-3, early after a Llewellyn kill, and Loyola would not get closer than three for the remainder of the set.
Crawford and
Caitlin Churney both had six kills for the Greyhounds, while
Kacy Sekunda added five.
Bryanne Soares totaled 16 assists, and
Rose McDermott had a team-high nine digs.
Loyola will be back in Patriot League play on Friday when it heads to Washington, D.C., for a 7 p.m. match at American University.
