WASHINGTON, D.C. – Loyola University Maryland opened Friday night's Patriot League match with a 25-23 win over American, but the Eagles came back on their home court to win the final three sets, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20, to take a four-set victory at Bender Arena.
Caitlin Churney and
Kacy Sekunda each had 10 kills for the Greyhounds, and
Kennedy Stevens hit .462 with seven kills for the Greyhounds.
Three Loyola players had 10 or more digs led by
Rose McDermott's 17 and 16 by
Lauren Link.
Bryanne Soares added 10 to go with 23 assists.
American led the first set, 19-18 after a Churney-
Morgan Crawford block. Churney and
Sophie Brenner then combined for a block that would tie the set at 19-19. Stevens served an ace, and Loyola was in front 20-19.
Four times the Eagles got to with in a point in the frist set – the last time coming on a Zeynep Uzen kill at 24-23, but Sekunda ended the stanza with a kill for the Greyhounds.
The second set remained tight with Sekunda putting away a kill to pull Loyola within a point, 24-23, but Uzen sided out for American with a kill to terminate the second set in its favor.
Loyola will be off until next weekend when it goes on the road for Patriot League matches at Bucknell and Lehigh
