Swimming & Diving Sweeps Patriot League Pair

BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland won all four relays and a combined 20 individual events on Friday afternoon as the Greyhounds men and women swept a double-dual meet against American University and Colgate University.
 
The women scored a 210-88 win over Colgate and a 194-106 decision against the Eagles, while the men were 245-53 winners against the Raiders and topped American, 222-76.
 
Riding Relay Success Three For Two
  • Three Greyhounds won three events each: Mead (100 breaststroke, 500 freestyle), Calista Fasser (1- and 3-meter diving) and Joe Hayburn (100 freestyle, 200 individual medley).
  • Mead swam 1:04.76 to win the 100 breakstroke with teammate Avery Stimmel taking second in 1:05.23. She later came back for a victory in the 500 freestyle, touching the wall in 5:02.66.
  • Fasser was a double winner in the diving events, scoring 234.25 off the lower board and 225.75 in the two-meter.
  • Hayburn completed the double with a time of 45.89 to win the 100 freestyle and 1:53.52 for first in the 200 individual medley.
Top Five Sweep
  • Loyola's men swept the top five in two different events, taking those spots in the 200 backstroke and the 200 individual medley.
  • Patrick Hayburn led the way in the backstroke with a time of 1:51.23, followed by Owen Glaser (1:55.13), Shinnick (1:55.27), Knurek (1:57.61) and Kyle Lo (1:59.04).
  • Joe Hayburn touched first in the individual medley, winning in 1:53.52, while Zach Eisenmann was second (1:57.31), followed by Schindler (1:57.98), Pierre Leroy (1:58.22) and van Lierop (1:58.74).
Winners' Circle
  • Faith Karr led off the individual events with a victory for the Greyhounds in the women's 1,000 freestyle in 10:40.06.
  • Matthew Gray won the men's 1,000 freestyle in 9:45.22 with Kiernan Leary (9:48.03) and Peter Weinstein (9:53.96) rounding out the top three.
  • The men were one away from another top-five sweep in the 200 freestyle as Kelly (1:41.98), Harry Hearn (1:43.36), Floyd Conlin (1:44.51) and Coyle (1:45.06) took the first four spots.
  • Bruen and Lauren Lane were first and second, respectively, for the Loyola women in the 100 backstroke, swimming 58.71 and 59.20.
  • Shinnick was first in the men's 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 52.24 with Tie Manuel taking second in 53.01.
  • Verheyen led a one-two-three finish for Loyola in the men's 100 breaststroke, swimming 57.49 with Liam Morris (58.56) and Mueller (58.92) taking second and third.
  • Lane Bradshaw edged van Lierop by 29-hundredths of a second 1:56.71 to 1:57.00 in the men's 200 butterfly.
  • Lauren Lane won the women's 200 backstroke (2:05.52), and Riley Fried was a winner in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.39).
  • Morris led the way for the Loyola men in the 200 breaststroke, winning in 2:09.19 as Greg Sifferman took second in 2:10.61.
  • Alex Palvoukos touched first in the men's 500 freestyle (4:41.05).
  • Laura Latham picked up a win in the women's 200 individual medley with a time of 2:09.13, out-touching Colgate's Audrey Collins by two-hundredths of a second.
Back At It Tomorrow
  • Loyola will be back in action Saturday when it travels to Williamsburg, Virginia, for a 2 p.m. meet at College of William & Mary.
