Adams, Clarke Set Record In Indoor Track & Field’s Opener

NEW YORK – Jamie Adams and Lauryn Clarke set school sprint records on Friday afternoon as the Loyola University Maryland women's track and field team started the 2023-24 season at the Rutgers Holiday Classic at the New York Armory.

Opening With A Bang
  • Clarke and Adams both set records and, in the process, broke one that the other had held previously.
  • Clarke opened the year with a record-breaking sprint in the 60 meters, crossing the line in a personal-best time of 7.64 that just edged Adams' previous school record of 7.65 seconds set last season. Clarke was second in the event behind Rutgers' Sydney Hawkins.
    • Last year, the two opened the season by sharing a school record in the 60 as each ran 7.78 seconds at the same event.
  • Adams was not to be outdone Friday in the record-setting category to finish fourth and take down Clarke's mark from a year ago in the 300 meters from a year ago. She ran 40.31 seconds on Friday to finish fourth and beat Clarke's tie of 40.90 from the event last season.
Making The List
  • Three other performances made the Greyhounds' all-time performances and performers lists on Friday at the season-opening event.
  • Isabella Coleman ran the fastest indoor 3,000-meter time at Loyola since the 2013 season when she finished 13th in 10:28.20. Her time is good for eighth overall, and she is the fifth fastest in the event in school indoor history.
  • Clarke had her second list-worthy performance of the day in the 200 meters, running 25.35, a time that is sixth-best all-time and makes her the second-fastest performer. She was fifth in the event.
  • Leanely Cruz made her Loyola debut with a time of 9.30 seconds in the 60 meters, running 12th overall. Her time is tied for seventh-best in school history, and it makes her the third-fastest performer ever in the event.
Top Tens All Around
  • In addition to those above, several other Greyhounds had finishes in the top 10 of their events on Friday.
  • Meghan Leonard was fifth in the 1,000 meters (3:07.19), while Kiera Udell (3:11.33) took eighth.
  • Maeve Lowther (5:27.32), Sammie Spargo (5:28.19) and Kasey Boag (5:31.56) were seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively in the mile.
Up Next
  • Loyola will get back into competition after the calendar flips to 2024, running next at the Nittany Lion Challenge on Saturday, January 13, in State College, Pennsylvania.
