HUNTINGDON VALLEY, Pa. –
Mike Crowley won six holes in match play competition over a 10-hole stretch to pull away and win the 123rd-Annual BMW Philadelphia Amateur Championship at Huntingdon Valley Country Club on Saturday.
Crowley, who will be a senior at Loyola University Maryland in the fall, defeated Patrick Isztwan of the University of Richmond, 7&6 in a 36-hole final for the title.
The 2023 All-Patriot League honoree shot 4-under 67 to lead 3-up after the morning's 18 holes, but Isztwan birdied Huntingdon Valley's second hole to close within 2-up after 20.
Crowley then rolled in three-straight birdies to take a 5-up lead through 23 holes. Isztwan came back to win the next, but Crowley won the next two for a 6-up lead after 26.
A birdie on the 10
th hole gave him a 7-up lead, and he closed out the match two holes later with a par on the 12
th hole of the course and 30
th of the day.
Crowley was seeded 14
th after stroke play, and he won his Round of 32 match, 4&3 against John Barone. He knocked off Andy Butler, 6&5, to reach the quarterfinals where he was a 2&1 winner over Campbell Wolf.
He then outlasted Benjamin Smith, 1-up, in a Thursday semifinal to reach the championship match.
This season, Crowley finished second at the Patriot League Championships as one of three top-five finishes and six top-18 finishes he had throughout the collegiate season. Last week, he reached the Round of 16 at the Maryland Amateur Championship.
