BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland's
James Rico was named the Patriot League Men's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday after leading the Greyhounds at Duke University's Rod Myers Invitational.
The sophomore from Cary, North Carolina, tied for 21
st at the event that featured multiple teams ranked in the nation's top 100. He shot 4-over 220 overall and was the Greyhounds' top finisher.
Rico, who qualified for the U.S. Amateur this summer, opened the tournament with a 1-over par 73 Sunday morning, and he shot a stroke higher in the afternoon round that day. He came back to the 7,154-yard, par-72 course on Monday and shot another 73 in the final round.
He was more than three strokes better than the course average every day, and he finished tied for third at the tournament with 37 pars during the three-round event.
The award is the second of Rico's career after he earned one last March after finishing sixth at the Ross Collegiate Classic.
