ORLANDO – The Loyola University Maryland men's tennis team played its third match in as many days on Wednesday during its Florida trip, but the Greyhounds fell, 7-0, to RPI at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.
RPI came out to take an advantage in doubles with Joel McCandless and Tsubi Okada turning back
Matt Cardano and
Cristian Pemueller, 6-0, at No. 2. Aiden Drover-Mattinen and Andy Zhu clinched the point with a 6-2 win against
Nick Haggar and
Oliver Davey at No. 1. Bryce Burnham and Jonathan McMillan closed out doubles with a 6-4 win at No. 3 against
George Cavo and
Bennett LaLonde.
In singles play, Zhu topped Davey, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2, and Burnham was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 4 against Cavo.
Tasmay Shah beat
George Bulger, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 6, and McCandless downed Pemueller, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 5.
Two Greyhounds took their opponents to three sets before falling in the end. Haggar won the second set against Okada, but was edged overall, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4, at No. 3; Cardano lost, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, to Drover-Mattinen at No. 1.
Loyola plays its final match of the trip on Thursday at 1 p.m. against North Carolina A&T.
