Baltimore, Md. — Loyola University Maryland women's soccer controlled much of the play Wednesday night as the Greyhounds battled to a 1-1 draw at Ridley Athletic Complex to remain undefeated in Patriot League play.
After dominating possession (64%) and outshooting the Leopards 17–6, the Greyhounds (5–2–7, 2–0–4 Patriot League), senior midfielder Asma Merzougui broke through in the 73rd minute, finishing off a well-worked sequence from Malia Tarazon and Reagan Mallia to put Loyola ahead 1–0.
The Greyhounds continued to press forward but were denied an insurance goal by Lafayette goalkeeper Catherine Apker, who made seven saves on the night. Despite Loyola's commanding midfield control, the Leopards found an equalizer in the 86th minute when Nadia Zaffanella leveled the score.
Goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer recorded two saves for the Greyhounds, as they extended their unbeaten streak to seven games. Loyola's high-pressing attack and disciplined defensive back line, led by Zoe Willis and Payton Hurley, limited Lafayette's chances throughout.
Loyola returns to action this on Saturday, as they will host Colgate in a crucial Patriot League matchup for Senior Day.
