Four Greyhounds Take Patriot League Weekly Swimming Awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Fresh off a pair of victories in the Thomas Murphy Invitational over the weekend, Loyola University Maryland swimmers swept the Patriot League's weekly Swimmers and Rookies of the Week awards on Tuesday.

Joe Hayburn and Christine Datovech were named Male and Female Swimmers of the Week, while Cody Miles and Megan Donovan earned their respective Rookies of the Week.

Hayburn, who was named co-Swimmer of the Meet, garnered the men's award for the fourth time in his career after winning three individual titles and four relay crowns at the event. He won the 50 freestyle, plus the 100 and 200 backstrokes at the meet, and he also set a pool record in the 50 backstroke while leading off the 200 medley relay, swimming 21.56 in his opening leg.

Datovech continued an excellent start to her Greyhounds career by winning the 100 butterfly in 53.33, setting pool and school records in the process with a time that ranks No. 2 in the Patriot League this year. She also was second in the 50 freestyle and was on four winning relays. Her split in the 50 butterfly of 24.00 set a pool and school record and qualified her for next month's U.S. Open Championships.

Miles had the fifth-most points by a men's swimmer at the meet after reaching the podium in three events. He won the 400 individual medley in 3:56.39, the No. 3 time in the conference this year, and he took second in the 1,650 freestyle, swimming 15:54.99, the conference's top mark so far. He also was third in the 500 freestyle, clocking 4:33.05.

Donovan turned in a pair of top-two finishes at the Thomas Murphy, highlighted by winning the 200 breaststroke in 2:18.35. She was second in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:03.76. Both times rank No. 3 in the conference to date.

Loyola will be back in the water on Sunday, November 7, when it travels to face West Virginia.
