BALTIMORE — Loyola Maryland leaned on a resilient defensive effort and a goal from forward Malia Tarazon to earn a 1–1 draw against Navy on Wednesday night at Ridley Athletic Complex in Patriot League women's soccer action.
Tarazon opened the scoring in the 30th minute, finishing a well-placed assist from defender Riley Kennel for her first goal of the season. The Greyhounds (5-4-8, 2-2-5 Patriot League) controlled possession for much of the match, holding a 59% advantage and outshooting the Midshipmen 15–9, including a 9–3 edge in shots on target.
Goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer anchored Loyola's defense with two saves, while the back line limited Navy's chances in the second half. Loyola's midfield trio of Asma Merzougui, Reagan Mallia, and Brigid McElderry helped maintain tempo and possession, combining for five shots and three on goal.
Navy (9-6-4, 2-3-4) equalized in the 39th minute on a solo effort from midfielder Jessica Black, who notched her third goal of the season. Despite several second-half substitutions and late offensive pushes, the Midshipmen were unable to break through Loyola's defense.
Savannah Manset led Loyola with four shots, while Francesca Khachatourians added three off the bench. Natasha Stramrood kept Navy in the match with eight saves, including key stops in the final 15 minutes.
With the draw, Loyola clinched a spot in the Patriot League Championships and will travel to West Point, NY to face the No. 3 seeded Army Black Knights.
