BALTIMORE – Six Loyola University Maryland men's basketball players scored 10 or more points for the first time in more than a decade Thursday, and the Greyhounds tied a school record for rebounds, easing to a 96-60 win over visiting Penn State Abington in Reitz Arena.
Sam Springer led Loyola with 16 points, while Jordan Stiekme and
Jacob Theodosiou had 15 and 14, respectively.
Braeden Speed,
Jonas Sirtautas and
Troy Cicero Jr. all scored 11 in the win.
Loyola also tied its single-game school record for rebounds with 57, matching the total it had on February 13, 2021, at Lafayette.
The game marked the first time since January 18, 2015, that six Loyola players scored in double figures. The last time came in an overtime win against Boston University.
Loyola shot 50 percent from 3-point range, making 13 of 26, in the game. Springer knocked down four 3-pointers en route to his career-best 16 points.
Stiemke and Cicero both had three from behind the arch, while the trio each missed only one three in the game.
Sebastien Emenalo, and Speed had team highs of eight rebounds each, and Sirtautas grabbed seven. Theodosiou had six boards, while Springer and
Everett Barnes had five each. Barnes also blocked three shots.
The Greyhounds had 17 assists with just eight turnovers in the game. Speed dished out six, and
Carter Berg-McLean added three.
Loyola will take the weekend off from competition before playing its next game, a Tuesday, November 11, home contest against NJIT at 7 p.m.
