BALTIMORE –
Emmett Adair and
Jordan Stiemke combined for make 18 of 27 shots from the field and scored a total of 50 points on Sunday evening, leading Loyola University Maryland to a 95-84 non-conference win over Coppin State University in Reitz Arena.
Adair scored 29 points off the bench and led Loyola (4-5 overall) with seven rebounds, while Stiemke knocked down 5 of 8 from 3-point range and went for a season-best 21 points.
Jacob Theodosiou had his first career double-double with 18 points and a career-high 10 assists.
Loyola led by as many as 11 in the first half, thanks in large part to Stiemke scoring 15 before halftime, but the Eagles (2-8) got within a pair, 41-39 with a Nelson Lamizana three with 30 seconds on the clock.
The Greyhounds got a Stiemke an open three from the top of the perimeter on the first play of the second half, a shot he made, and Loyola led by at least five for the rest of the game.
An Adair layup at 17:26 pushed the advantage to 10, 52-42, part of his 23 points in the second half.
Coppin State got within four, 62-58 on a Hassan Perkins three with 11:32 left in the half, and the Loyola lead was seven with 8:33 remaining before the Greyhounds used a 16-6 run over the next four minutes to break the game open.
Adair hit a three off one of
Braeden Speed's seven assists at 4:44 to make it an 85-68 advantage.
The Australian freshman is the first Loyola first-year player to score 29 or more points since at least 2003-04 season per Stathead.com.
Both teams shot 56 percent or better from the field with the Eagles at an even 56 and the Greyhounds going 31 of 55 for 56.4 percent.
It also marked the first time since February 16-18, 1989, that the Greyhounds have scored 95 or more points in back-to-back games (Loyola beat Washington College 101-51 on November 25.
In addition to the three who scored 18 or more points, Speed had nine,
Sam Springer added seven and
Jonas Sirtautas scored five. Perkins led Coppin State with 19 points.
Loyola will be back in action on Wednesday, December 3, with a 7 p.m. game at Hampton University.
