LEXINGTON, Va. – Virginia Military Institute made 12 first-half 3-pointers on Tuesday night and carried a 51-32 halftime advantage to an 86-70 non-conference win over Loyola University Maryland on Tuesday night.
Linus Holmstrom made 7 of 9 from behind the arc before halftime, knocking down his final of the seven with 11 ticks left in the stanza to give the Keydets their 19-point lead at the break.
Loyola held VMI to 1 of 11 from 3-point range in the second half, but the Greyhounds only cut into the lead by three by the end of the game.
Emmett Adiar scored a team-high 21 points for the Greyhounds, making 10 of 18 shots from the field.
Braeden Speed added 17, hitting four 3-pointers of his own, and
Jordan Stiemke finished with 11 for Loyola. Holmstrom led all players with 23 points as one of four Keydets in double figures.
Loyola did have a 36-33 advantage on the boards, led by
Jacob Theodosiou's eight and
Everett Barnes' seven, and Loyola had 18 assists in the game.
The Greyhounds will be back in Reitz Arena on Saturday, December 13, for a 6 p.m. home game against Mount St. Mary's University.
