GOODYEAR, Ariz. –
Dustin Stocksdale shot a collegiate-best round of 5-under 72 to move into a tie for seventh individually and help the Loyola University Maryland golf team rise to third place overall through 36 holes at the 13
th edition of the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club.
Stocksdale opened the day in a tie for 30
th after carding an even-par 72 on Sunday in the tournament's first round, but he put up his first red number of Monday on his third hold, the 205-yard, par-3 eighth hole.
That birdie was the first of four among his first 11 holes, and he added a fifth on his 14
th hole of the day, the course's first.
He then rolled in his first collegiate eagle at the 515-yard, par-5 second hole to get to 7-under for Monday before a pair of bogeys on the fourth and fifth holes moved him back to 5-under for the second round and the tournament.
As a team, the Greyhounds tied for the second-best round of the day, shooting 9-under 279 to get to 11-under for the tournament.
Richmond, which also shot 9-under on Monday, leads the event at 20-under. Boise State had the second round's best team score at 11-under 277 and is second after starting the day tied with Loyola for fifth.
Eli Spaulding added a 1-under 71 to his tournament after shooting 2-under 70 on Sunday. He is tied for 13
th at 3-under, while
Mike Crowley is tied for 20
th at 2-under after a second-round 71.
Jackson Roman birdied five holes on Monday and finished with a 2-under 70 to get to a tie for 26
th at 1-under par.
Gustavo Rangel is tied for 57
th at 3-over following a 2-over 74 on Monday.
Lorenzo Sanz, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 85
th at 7-over through 36 holes with a 5-over 77 on Monday.
The tournament's final round will start with a shotgun opening at 7:45 a.m. (MST) on Tuesday.
