ANNAPOLIS, Md. –
Lily Mead won the 50 freestyle, and the women's 200 freestyle relay team took first Friday night as the Loyola University Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened a weekend of competition at the 2025 ECAC Championships.
Mead was a part of both victories for the Loyola women, taking an individual title and leading off the relay race.
Remmi Shaw,
Gabby Jones and
Emily Colyar followed Mead's leadoff leg and held off second-place Navy by almost two seconds for the relay title. The Greyhounds finished in 1:32.97 to the Midshipmen's 1:34.70.
Loyola's men nearly had a double win in the opening final for the Greyhounds, as
Liam Schindler,
Tyler Knurek,
Dylan Covington and Joey Zellner were second in 1:21.32.
Matthew Hughes and Pierre Leroy were third and fourth, respectively, in the men's 500 freestyle with times of 4:27.35 and 4:28.17.
Jonah Goodman and Matthew Gray scored, too, finishing sixth (4:28.48) and 11
th (4:32.42).
Adrianna Caponiti and
Gianna Moscetti were eighth and 11
th in the women's 500 freestyle, swinning 5:03.67 and 5:08.51.
Floyd Conlin picked up a sixth-place finish in the 200 individual medley, racing to a time of 1:50.32, while
Elias Corn was 16
th in 1:54.66.
Mead won the 50 freestyle in 22.61 seconds ahead of Penn's Keara McGowan's 23.32. Colyar took seventh in the race in 23.97, and Jones placed ninth (24.03) by winning the 'B' final. Schindler finished seventh in the men's 50 freestyle in 20.33 seconds.
The men's 400 freestyle relay – Knurek, Corn, Covington and Schindler – went 3:17.37 for third in their race, while Jones, Kiera McGrath,
Katie Witkop and Colyar were seventh in the women's relay (3:52.36).
Racing will continue Saturday at the U.S. Naval Academy.
