Women’s Tennis Beats Villanova, Remains Unbeaten

BALTIMORE – Mia Matriccino, Emma Roeck and Jessica Bodewes won singles matches on Tuesday afternoon to provide the needed points in a 4-3 Loyola University Maryland win against visiting Villanova University.
 
Their wins, coupled with a doubles point earlier in the match, pushed the Greyhounds' record to 8-0 in dual-match play this season.
 
Lauren Manwiller and Emma Roeck delivered a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles against Emi Callahan and Lauren Monti, and Christine Richiez and Jessica Bodewes then outlasted Miriam Gondorova and Jenna Stevens, 7-6 (3), at No. 2, to clinch the opening point.
 
Villanova's Maggie Gehrig and Maddie Hills topped Jocelyn Assael and Emi Shivkumar, 6-1, at No. 3 doubles.
 
In singles play, Bodewes and Roeck won in straight sets on the No. 5 and 6 lines. Roeck topped Valieriia Kornieva, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5, and Bodewes was a 7-6 (5), 6-2 winner over Hills at No. 6.
 
Matriccino then rallied from a first-set loss to Monti for a 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3.
 
Olivia Corcoran and Gehrig won three-set matches for the Wildcats with Corcoran outlasting Richies, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 1, and Gehrig taking a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 decision against Elena Hartley at No. 2. Gondorova got past Manwiller, 7-6 (4), 6-1, at No. 4.
 
The Loyola men fell in an afternoon match, 5-2, to the Wildcats.
 
Ryan Gill and Cristian Pemueller both used super-tiebreakers in the third set to score points for the Greyhounds with singles wins. Gill defeated Thomas Wakefield, 5-7, 6-4, (10-5) at No. 4, and Pemueller was a 6-3, 6-7 (5), (14-12) winner against Cameron Kruep at No. 6.
 
Cooper Gordon beat Noah Castillo, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1, and Trey Fourticq defeated George Cavo, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2. Will Monahan topped Ryan Boland, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3, and Kush Anand edged Blake Edwards, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 5.
 
In doubles play, Fourticq and Gordon beat Boland and Pemueller, 6-2, at No. 2, and Wakefield and Anand were 7-5 winners at No. 3 against Cavo and Harry Zeiders. Monahan and Justin Frattarelli led Castillo and Gill, 6-5, in an unfinished match on the No. 1 line.
