BALTIMORE – Eight Loyola University Maryland men's and women's swimmers were named to the Academic All-District Team presented by CSC, the College Sports Communicators organization announced on Tuesday.
Riley Fried,
Haley Robinson,
Avery Stimmel and
Lily Mead were named to the women's team, while
Joe Hayburn,
Patrick Hayburn,
Michael Gozdan and
Henry Mueller were recognized for the men.
Student-athletes are eligible for the award if they competed in five competitions or finished in the top-eight of a conference meet. They must have sophomore academic and athletic standing and have a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher. Each school may nominate four men and four women for the award.
Fried had a fourth-place finish in the women's 400-yard individual medley and a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly for the Greyhounds at the Patriot League Championships. Robinson took seventh in the 50-yard freestyle, and Stimmel was seventh in the 100-yard freestyle at the meet.
Mead was named the Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Meet after winning three titles at the Championships. She took first in the 200-yard backstroke, the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke, and after the season, she was named the Patriot League Women's Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Joe Hayburn reached a pair of podiums at the Patriot League Championships for the men's team, taking second in the 200-yard backstroke and third in the 100-yard backstroke. Gozdan had two fourth-place finishes in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events, and Mueller as in the top eight of three events: 200-yard backstroke (5
th), 100-yard backstroke (6
th) and the 200-yard individual medley (8
th).
Patrick Hayburn captured the Patriot League Men's Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and was the Greyhounds' top point-scorer at the Patriot League Championships. He was second in the 100-yard butterfly, sixth in the 50-yard freestyle and seventh in the 100-yard backstroke.
