LEWISBURG, Pa. –
Gustavo Rangel's 3-under 67 on Saturday vaulted him into a one-shot lead at the Patriot League Championships on Saturday, and the Loyola University Maryland golf team will head into the Sunday's final round tied for second in the team race.
Rangel played the Bucknell Golf Club's front nine at 2-under par with birdies on the third and ninth holes around seven pars, and he then birdied the 11
th, 12
th and 14
th holes to get to 5-under in Saturday's second round. After two pars, he bogeyed each of the last two holes and finished his day with a 67.
He leads the individual race at 4-under and is in front of Holy Cross' Nolan Schuermann and Lafayette's Quint Dingledine by a shot.
Collectively, the final two holes at the course set Loyola back into a tie for second place after it was leading the tournament through 34 holes. The Greyhounds' six players shot a combined 8-over on 17 and 18 Saturday.
Loyola is tied for second with Holy Cross at 1-over par. Army West Point leads the team race at 3-under through 36 holes.
Eli Spaulding followed his 1-under on Friday with a 1-over Saturday and is tied for ninth after two rounds.
Jackson Roman shot 3-over 73 on Saturday and is tied for 14
th, while
Mike Crowley was 1-over on Saturday and is tied for 18
th.
Garrett Kessler's 3-over in the second round moved him to a tie for 27
th, and
Dustin Stocksdale shot 77 on Saturday and is tied for 43
rd.
The final round will start at 10 a.m. for the Greyhounds who will play in the final six groups with Army West Point and Holy Cross.
