  • The Greyhounds returned the favor, snapping a nine-game losing streak to the Raiders, by winning the February 23 meeting, 84-65.
  • Loyola never trailed in the February 23 game, taking a double-digits lead less just over five minutes into the contest. Jalen Cox made it 26-15 Greyhounds with 9:22 to play in the first half, but Loyola scored 11 of the next 12 points to lead by 21, 37-16, less than three minutes later.

Last Time Out

  • Bucknell rallied from 13 down in the first half to create a 28-28 tie at halftime, and the Bison took a 70-67 Patriot League decision against Loyola on Saturday night.
  • Sam Springer's three with 13:07 to go in the first half gave Loyola a 17-4 lead, but Bucknell scraped back and scored the next nine points before a Jacob Theodosiou three at 9:40 made it a 20-13 Greyhounds lead.
  • After the Bison tied the game for the first time at 23-23 with 4:27 to go in the half, Theodosiou converted at the rim to put Loyola up a pair, 25-23.
  • Bucknell tied the game on an Amon Dōrries dunk, and Ruot Bijiek made a three to put the Bison up three, 28-25.
  • Theodosiou responded with a three for the Greyhounds with 39 seconds left on the clock, and the score was tied 28-28 at the break.
  • The Bison had a three-point possession to start the second half, but Theodosiou gave Loyola a 32-31 lead with a transition dunk. Bucknell came back to score the next 12 points, building a 42-32 lead with 16:47 on the clock.
  • Loyola got back within three on a Troy Cicero Jr. three at 11:38, but Bucknell went back up 11 at 8:58. Braeden Speed made two free throws at 3:10 in the second half, and Loyola was within a pair, 63-61, at 3:10.
  • Bucknell again went up by seven, but a Jordan Stiemke three with a minute to play, and a Speed jumper off a baseline out-of-bounds play pulled Loyola within two, 69-67, with 38 ticks on the clock.
  • Loyola forced a missed three by the Bison, and the Greyhounds battled for a defensive rebound to retain possession. Speed brought the ball up the floor, but he was called for an offensive foul that led to Bucknell's final free throw and the game's end.
  • Theodosiou led Loyola with 20 points, Speed added 11, and Emmett Adair came off the bench to grab a team-high seven rebounds.

Back To Speed

  • Braeden Speed is second on the team in scoring at 13.4 points per game, a mark that is up a full two points since the start of December over Loyola's last eight games. He has led the Greyhounds in scoring in four of the last five games, including the first three conference outings.
  • The sophomore guard from Arizona had a stretch of five-straight games with 11 points or more (Nov. 6-19) snapped when he finished with five at then-No. 12 Kentucky, a game that started a three-game stretch where he totaled just 20 (six in limited action versus Washington College and nine against Coppin State).
  • Since then, Speed has scored 14 at Hampton and his second-best total of the year, 17 at VMI, 10 against Mount St. Mary's a career-best 24 points at George Mason and team highs of 13 at American, 18 against Lafayette and 19 at Army West Point.
  • The game against the Patriots was the second 20-plus point game of Speed's collegiate career, joining his November 15 game against Stonehill when he had 21.
  • During the last eight outings, Speed has shot 45.1 percent from the field (37 of 82), making 37.1 percent (13 of 35) from 3-point range. Overall this year, he is also second on the team in total rebounds (73) and assists (58 total, 3.4 per game).

Speed In The League

  • Braeden Speed ranks ninth in the Patriot League in points per game during conference play, averaging 15.3 over four games. Getting to the line has been a big part of helping those scoring numbers. He's second behind Navy's Austin Benigni in free throws attempted (31), and his 27 free throws made in Patriot League play are tied for the lead in conference games.

Second Half Sparks

  • Through 17 games this year, the Greyhounds' offense has been better during the second half of games, averaging 40.3 points to 33.7 in the first half.
  • Loyola has shot .462 from the field after the break, compared with .413 in the first.
  • On the defensive end, Loyola has limited opponents to 38.0 points after halftime, compared to 38.9 in the opening 20.

Adair Up There

  • Emmett Adair had the best game of his young career against Coppin State making 11 of 17 shots from the field, 3 of 6 from 3-point range, en route to scoring 29 points. He was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week after that game and a 10-point, 7-rebound performance against Washington College.
  • Adair had the second 20-plus point game of the season on December 9 at VMI, making 10 of 18 from the field to finish with 21 points.
  • Adair missed the first five games of Loyola's season with an illness, but he's been a key contributor since making his debut November 19 at Duquesne. The Sydney, Australia, native has averaged 11.4 points, a team-high 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in his 12 games played while averaging just 23.2 minutes.
  • Adair, who played for the Australian Senior National Team this summer as it went 6-0 to qualify for in FIBA Asia Cup qualifying, has shot 47.4 percent from the field in those games, 62.7 percent from 2-point range.

Sirtautas' Return

  • Jonas Sirtautas missed 3-1/2 games with an arm injury suffered in the first half of the December 3 game at Hampton before returning to action on December 31 at American.
  • In 14 games played this season, Sirtautas is third in the Patriot League in total blocked shots (25) and blocks per game (1.8), and he leads the conference in two-point field goal percentage (78.3).

On The Offensive Glass

  • Loyola is second in the Patriot League in offensive rebounds per game, averaging 11.6 through 17 outings.
  • Emmett Adair has played in just 12 games thus far, but he is fifth in the conference with 35 pulls off the offensive glass. In those 12 games, Loyola is averaging 11.3 offensive rebounds after averaging 9.8 in the year's first five.

Theodosiou's Last Fourteen

  • Jacob Theodosiou put together the best pair of games, statistically, in a three-game stretch against Stonehill, Fairfield and Duquesne, averaging 23.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.3 steals, but his numbers have also been robust over the last 14. He has scored 20 or more six times during a run in which he is averaging a team-best 16.5 points per game.
  • The junior guard scored 21 on November 15 against Stonehill before posting 27 the next day versus host Fairfield. He was named Patriot League Player of the Week following those games before scoring 21 against Duquesne on November 19.

  • Over Loyola's last 14 games, Theodosiou has averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals.
  • In Loyola's last six games – dating to the Mount St. Mary's contest – Theodosiou is shooting 43.2 percent from 3-point range (16 of 37) after going 6 of 39 (15.3) in the first 11 games of the year.

  • Loyola has made 69 of 121 shots over a two-game stretch, a pair of wins against Washington College and Coppin State, good for a .570 mark from the field.
  • The Greyhounds shot .576 (38 of 66) against the Shoremen before going 31 of 55 Sunday night against Coppin State. It is the first time Loyola has made 55 percent or better of its shots in back-to-back games since December 5-8, 2018, when it shot .579 in a loss at Drexel and .552 in a win at Binghamton.
  • The hot shooting came to an end in the first-half at Hampton, however, when Loyola made just 8 of 25 (.320). The Greyhounds did come back to shoot .469 in the second half against the Pirates. Loyola then shot .439 at VMI, .467 in the second half.

At The Next Level

  • As a school of less than 4,000 undergraduate students, Loyola University Maryland boasted three former student-athletes on NBA rosters as players last month on opening night.
