Cunningham Joins Greyhounds as Assistant Track and Cross Country Coach

BALTIMORE – Luke Cunningham has joined the Loyola University Maryland staff as an assistant cross country and track coach and will work with Greyhounds distance runners.

"I'm excited to welcome Luke to our program as he differentiated himself in our search by showing well-rounded initiative and a coaching philosophy that aligns with our program," said Loyola Head Coach Amy Horst. "His goals to guide student-athletes in developing life skills through sport, create great teammates, and willingness to grow will be an immediate asset."

As a student-athlete, Cunningham ran from 2020-2023 while earning his Bachelor of Arts in criminology and sociology at Wagner College, before he spent 2023-2025 at the University of New Mexico, earning his Master of Science in exercise science and physical education.

Cunningham was the Northeast Conference indoor mile champion for the Seahawks in 2023, and later that year, he was in the top four of the 1,500, 4x400 and 4x800 relays at the NEC Outdoor Championships. Overall, he won five conference track and field titles at Wagner.

He was a member of two NEC Men's Cross Country Championship teams, helping the Seahawks win the 2022 title with an and the 2020-2021 title.

At New Mexico, he ran in several cross country meets, capping his 2023 season at the Mountain West Conference Championships. He later competed in both indoor and outdoor track and field for the Lobos, running at both Mountain West Conference Championships meets.

In 2025, Cunningham continued competing and ran a 3:39.74 in the 1,500 meters during the summer in Germany.
