League Matches The Rest Of The Way

  • The Loyola University Maryland volleyball team will be on the road for a pair of distant road games this weekend as it continues Patriot League play.
  • The Greyhounds first go to Worcester, Massachusetts (363 miles on Google Maps) for a 6 p.m. contest on Friday, October 9, at College of the Holy Cross.
  • Loyola will then cover 251 miles to go to Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, for a Saturday, October 10, contest at 5 p.m. 
  • Round trip, Loyola will cover approximately 775 miles.
  • Both matches are set to be streamed live on ESPN+.

Looking Back

  • Last weekend, Loyola split a pair of Patriot League road games, beating Navy in four on Friday night before falling in four on Saturday at American.
  • The Greyhounds' win against the Midshipmen was their first in Annapolis, Maryland, since October 21, 2008, and it marked Loyola volleyball's first road win against Navy since joining the Patriot League in 2013.

Starting To Click

  • Loyola has gone 3-1 in Patriot League play and pushed a Coppin State team currently on a 13-match winning streak to five sets over the last five games, seeing statistical improvements in nearly every category versus the season's first 11 contests.
  • In the last five, Loyola has hit .205 as opposed to .126 in its first 11 matches. Kills per set are up more than 2.6 to 12.86 against Bucknell, Lehigh, Coppin State, Navy and American after averaging 10.19.
  • Defensively, Loyola has averaged 14.43 digs per set in the last five compared to 12.94 in the first 11. The block has been a lot better, too, with Loyola posting 2.33 per set to 1.56 in the early matches.
  • The attack has been keyed by increased kill numbers from Morgan Crawford and Ava Nepkin. They averaged 3.81 and 2.95 per set in the last five contests compared to 2.31 and 2.25 in the opening 11. Setters Madison Monahan and Gabi Verdicchio have boosted their numbers, too, averaging 5.19 and 5.14 per set, respectively, compared to 3.97 and 4.19.

Addie's Aces

  • Addie Huber enters this weekend's Patriot League matches leading the conference in aces and aces per set.
  • The sophomore libero has a total of 31 service aces and is averaging 0.54 aces per set. Her numbers rank No. 22 and 27, respectively, in NCAA Division I this season. She has 20 aces in the Greyhounds' last nine matches with five coming against Navy
  • Huber's 31 aces have come in just 13 matches and 57 sets this season after she logged 34 aces in 25 matches and 95 sets a year ago.

Big On The Block

  • Elsie Afful has keyed the Greyhounds' improvement in blocking of late as a part of 30 over the last five matches, an average of 1.43 per set. She came into the five-match stretch averaging 0.74 per set with 23 total blocks in Loyola's first 11 matches, and she now ranks seventh in the Patriot League with 1.02 per set.
  • Afful recently had her first career match with 10 or more kills, posting 12 to go with a career-high eight digs in the win over Lehigh.

Leading The Defense

  • Sophomore libero Addie Huber has taken up residence in the top six of two Patriot League statistical categories through the first 15 matches of the year.
  • In addition to her aforementioned service ace numbers, Huber ranks fourth in digs per set (4.09) and total digs (233).
  • Huber led Patriot League freshmen in digs and digs per set last season, racking up 407 total and 4.28 per set. Her digs per set mark was ninth-highest among NCAA Division I freshmen, and it was third overall in the conference regardless of class year.
  • Huber had 10 or more digs in 21 of the Greyhounds' 27 matches last season when she played every set as Loyola's starting libero.She contributed 20 or more digs in 10 of those matches with 25 or more in three. In her career, she now has 10 or more in 29 of 40 matches, 20-plus in 14 and 25 or more in four.
