WILMINGTON, Del. — University of Delaware claimed a 6-1 victory over Loyola University Maryland in men's tennis Saturday afternoon at DuPont Country Club.
The Blue Hens secured the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Itamar Tapiro and Pere Prat defeated Harry Zeiders and Blake Edwards, 6-3, at No. 2, while Mason Robins and James Sclater earned a 6-4 decision over Louis Moldenhauer and Petter Hagen at No. 3. The top doubles match between Loyola's Nick Lawliss and Ryan Gill and Delaware's Tobey Lock and Aristotelis Bezianis was halted unfinished with the Greyhounds leading 5-4.
Delaware carried the momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches. Lock opened with a straight-set win over Lawliss, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 1. Tapiro followed with a three-set victory against Moldenhauer at No. 2, rebounding for a 2-6, 6-1 win before closing out the match in a 10-3 super tiebreaker.
Bezianis added a 6-3, 6-3 win over Edwards at No. 3, and Robins defeated Gill, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4. Sclater rounded out Delaware's singles wins with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Alejandro Rotundo at No. 6.
Loyola's lone point came at No. 5 singles, where Hagen rallied past Prat, 3-6, 6-4, before winning the super tiebreaker, 10-5.
