Baltimore, Md. -- Villanova University defeated the Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the McClure Tennis Center.
Villanova won 6-1 on the men's side and 5-2 on the women's.
In the men's match, Villanova secured doubles points by winning two of three matches. Ethan Carr and Cooper Gordon defeated
Ryan Gill and
Nick Lawliss 7-6 (7-5) at No. 1 doubles, while Kush Anand and Thomas Wakefield defeated
Petter Hagen and
Louis Moldenhauer, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 double's Loyola's duo of
Harry Zeiders and
Blake Edwards picked up the win over Quincy Jones and Jack Sherner 7-6 (8-6).
In singles, Villanova swept, as Gordon beat Moldenhauer, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, followed by Carr defeated Gill, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2. Will Monohan then defeated Hagen, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, as Wakefield capped it off with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Lawliss at No. 4.
On the women's side, Villanova swept all three doubles matches. Emi Callahan and Maggie Gehrig defeated
Christine Richiez and
Emma Roeck, 7-5 at No. 1, while at No. 2, Jenna Stevens and Lauren Monti defeated
Emi Shivkumar and
Elena Hartley, 6-2. At No. 3, Miriam Gondorova and Olivia Corcoran defeated
Victoria Epps and
Mia Matriccino, 6-1.
The Greyhounds picked up their first point in singles at No. 1, as Richiez defeated Corcoran, 6-4, 7-5. At No. 2, Gehrig defeated Hartley, 6-2, 6-4, while Gondorova defeated Matriccino, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. At No. 4, Stevens defeated Epps, 6-4, 6-3, while Roeck defeated Monti, 6-3, 6-1 as Loyola picked up another point.
